Its like polishing a bumper mate, your only cleaning off the resin!

Normal polish will get the muck off it. But to make it shine? Probably want a silicon cleaner.

the resin is quite hard, compound would needed to rid of scratches, then a good polish up with something finer.

you may even want to 2000 grit wet and dry it, then compound it,

fyi, wax wont do shit for scratches lol

If the scratch is deep then i would fill it with laquer and rub the area back down as others have said above using wet and dry paper then a decent quality compound. I work with carbon every day so if you like send me a picture of the damage and I might be able to give you some other ideas.

Cheers Gaz

I know my mate when he makes carbon fibre film props, motorbike fairings bits, car race bits, etc etc uses a wax on them before anything else as soon as they come out of vacuum oven, maybe I misunderstood what he was doing.

Why would you want silicon, its not silicon

I wouldnt polish it to hard, as you dont know the thickness of the resin, go through it and you've fucked the panel!

If its been laquered, then it'll mop, but like wise, I wouldnt machine polish it..

He probably gives thema quick buff with wax to shine thyem up and get rid of any traces of release agant he will have coated the mould with before he started laying up . The release agant stops the cured component sticking to the mould.

"A lot of body shops won't even realise that carbon hoods are coated with a different clearcoat than the rest of the car. Its more elastic because cabon fibre expands and contracts in heat/ cold. Don't use abrasives or you get a "bruising" or "shadowing" of the clear, especially by hand. I wouldn't even let a body shop use a mild abrasive on it.

Use a cleansing wax, very gently by hand. Best is Klasse All-In-One because it has no abrasives but perfects the paint brilliantly. Otherwise try Super Resin Polish by Autoglym or the Zymol Paint Cleanser (the blue stuff made by Turtle Wax, not the real expensive Zymol). Work the product in straight lines going from front to back of car, not side to side. Work a small area, but don't let it dry to a haze completely. Give it a light buff as you go, then give it a good buff with a micro-fibre towel." Keith-Racershaven.com

this was posted on a forum is used use before racershaven.com. remembered it so just searched and it was still there. hope its of help.
