Im hearing alot about classic car insurance but I dont know quite how it all works so Ive got a couple of questions for you all. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the situation.
How old does a car have to be to count as a classic?
How old do YOU need to be to have the policy?
Can you have a classic van i.e my Mk4 Escort RST van?
If its a classic car do you not pay tax or something?
Whats this valuation I hear? Do you need it valued befor you can have the policy?
If any one could help that would be great. Thanks all

insurance companies differ but as a rule the car has to be at least 15 yrs old.
i'm not sure how old you need to be..
you still have to tax the car
you wont need a valuation unless your insuring the car as an absolute minter
you can agree the value of the car but you may need an independant garage to fill in a for stating the condition..
example i am 36 insuring a 3 door cosworth for market value (Ł8k)
3000 miles per year kept on a drive with no security device...standard except a stainless exhaust....Ł155 per year......n.c.b. dosent come into it.

to be fair thats all good that info for something "big" like a cossie, every single insurance company i have spoken to wont insure a 19 year old (nearly 20) xr3i convertible, completely standard from factory, 78k from new and limited milage etc... saying im too young (21 which is bollocks as i have a classic policy on a capri!) and that the car is too new still and too many out there?
since when did the AMOUNT of cars left show them up? how many more mk1 and 2 escorts more are out there than mk4 cabby's????
to me its a big farce, there should be set rules for ALL insurance companies to follow for classic car policy stuff and not each and every one making their own rules up.
example: my classic policy for my 1986 capri laser - Sureterm, no problems whatsoever - very helpful and superb price!
xr3i quote from 4youngerdrivers: - EXACT WORDS SAID ON PHONE "ur taking the piss mate, 21 with a capri ur lying out your head you've no chance, and at that price then they must be going down the tubes to offer someone like your age that policy, come back when your 25 and can REALLY get a classic policy!"
needless to say they can stick their business up their arse when it comes to anything from me! and that was me only asking for a normal classic policy quote not a classic!
