Default "Vanity" plates on police cars.... WTF

Just riding home today, and was sat at a pedestrian crossing (walking my bike across before you start) and the first car at the lights was a silver skoda octavia VRS....private plate on it not seen that before!!

I looked up and saw some lights on the dash, a policeman driving it, and it had lights subtly placed all over it, and one of those flip up LED signs in the back window.

Fucking Liberty. It might not be an expensive plate, and hey who knows, it might appreciate in value, but surely thats going a bit far? I see it as a bit of an underhand way to make an unmarked car blend in a little more, and with it being a 'performance' car (I use the term loosely ) its bound to attract a few people having a pop for a bit of a traffic light grand prix.

And yes, I know we shouldnt be racing off the line, but thats beside the point, my main gripe is that they spend god knows what on equipment (fair do's, they need it) but to then add vanity/private plates to a fed car, it just seems like a piss take. That plus alot of the marked cars are now spanking new X5's....

PS: Its DEFO not an officer on his way home, as AFAIK they are not meant to wear full uniform when off duty, and besides, it had all the copper trimmings, lights etc.

PISSTAKE In my opinion.

Anyone else seen this, or similar tactics?

Maybe it's a demo car from Skoda or was purchased 2nd hand fleet maybe with the plate on it.

Who knows!

Write to your local constabulary if you feel that strongly about it and more than likely you will get the answer your looking for.

Around here alot of security guard firms use ex police cars and then they fit all the extra aerials, lights under the grille, similair markings as police cars etc.

In relation to their biggest informer. The first part being his username, and the second being his shoe size.

If having a private plate on makes them blend in more to catch 'real' criminals then fair play to them, im all for it. A few hundred quid well spent if it works.

Considering the hundreds of thousands of pounds of gear that's fitted to Police cars, a few hundred on a plate is nothing, and they can re use the plate forever or sell it at a profit.
