Default Turbo noise?

Just had my car tuned up today, (too some extent as the HT leads are pish), however, its running about 11-12psi of boost and when i let of the throttle i get a loud "pivf" sound? (hard to describe sounds lol) before the dump valve noise... is this normal? its a brand new -31 actuator on it?

Oh! Prob not that then because as you say MFI chatter isnt loud specially if you have a dump vavle fitted, and thinking about it more 12psi is probably a bit too low to hear chatter.
Could be the death squeal is the turbo very old?

Mine chatters enough to make people look although i'm pretty sure no one's cried yet mine has no d/v anymore though. true they're not as loud as efi as a rule, but i can hear it over the wind and road noise at close to three figure speeds, so it must be loud enough outside. still i prefer it now 10000 times more than when the d/v was on it. chatter FTW

loosing the dump valve makes it chatter 10x louder, as the dump vavle is there effectively to prevent chatter (sound of the turbo trying to stall)!

nah the the entire engine is 2000 miles old. Completely rebuilt turbo, gearbox the works.
It may be a bit of chatter then, but its only like one sialable of chatter if you like. I quite like the sound of the DV combined with it, cos its almost like a two stage dump. (still havent grown out of the sound of a DV lol)

No the exhasut has a very distinct tone anyway (missing a bit of baffle i think) and that does its pops and bangs just after the noise lol

Ive never entered a DV debate, so let this be the first lol

If they were needed, Ford would have fitted them to the MFI'd turbos. If the 'chatter' was seriously dangerous to the turbo, no-one would do it......

Now to me, a dump valve is purely a tool to allow knowledge to others that the car is a true turbo and not an xr3i with an rs bonnet and kit.... thats about it. I havent got one fitted any more (but i must also say that I do actually miss the noise lol)

But then Ford did design the turbo to run 9psi. not that i want to argue the fact.
But tbh I think you hold a valid point.

But as you said about the xr3i ect.. i get that plenty, spesh with the 80 spec body kit. DV soon shuts them up tho

I get a bit of chatter every now and again now my car has been tuned and its running 14psi.
Im leaving the dv on too as ford designed the turbo for 8-9psi not 14psi so cant do it any harm leaving it on!
