From what I've picked up on here and a couple of other places... 400/400 is pretty easily achievable on the later EVO models.

Engine will take 400bhp, maybe a little more. Getting that far on the standard injectors may be a struggle and to go for bigger injectors would really necessitate a management change, which might be a struggle on your budget.

Also, if it's on a standard Clutch, £1500 of that budget is already spoken for on a proper Clutch.

I think I'd fit an Evo 9 Turbo, Tubular Manifold, Cams, Boost Controller, Ecutek Remap and a Twin Plate Clutch.

That'd be about it for your £4k!!

What size of injectors come as standard on these cars??

Can the EcuTek software not run a bigger set of injectors comfortably on Evos then?? Just that I know plenty of people happily running larger 600cc+ on Imprezas that use EcuTek software... although I think that when things go north of 500bhp people tend to change to SimTek, GEMS, etc.. which I assume means that the EcuTek maybe doesnt have the scope to go quite as far as proper aftermarket management.

Cheers,
Grant

Depends on how well you want it to run. What's your point there Lee?

Regarding the clutch, Evo's ARE heavy on clutches, also the flywheel shouldn't be refaced, so even if you decide to go down the route of a 'conventional' clutch, that'll still cost is excess of £800. It's an expensive gamble IMO that probably won't last. Also, whats the point of having 400bhp if the clutch can't take it and we all know that driven as intended, an Evo clutch WONT take the torque associated with 400bhp.

Yes, I forgot the incidentals you mentioned.

get on the mlr mate

would agree with christian on his post and if you can afford it deffo get a twin plate then you can launch it properly aswell

only thing i would do different i wouldnt get a EcuTek i would just get a EcuFlash off someone on the MLR its miles cheaper, I had mine done this year and very impressed with the results

If it were me, i,d have an Ecutek done, Turbo back exhaust, clutch AND some brakes and if enough left over a nice suspension upgrade.

I,ve had 5 Evos...Lol, ok you,ll not make dead-on your 400 target, but it,ll be bloody close and with brakes, suspension it,ll be a hoot of a car.

Mine made 387bhp/381ft/lb when Ecuteked, made 480/460 after a MA Developments build mind you....

OK then, I must go and tell Gary to swap the 750cc injectors out that simply wouldnt run nicely for 1000cc's that will then??

Maybe our standard of what is classed as running nicely is just too high.

Bobby,

Our 'Stage 3' Package can be done for £1995 including a boost controller, VAT & Fitting.

http://www.motorsport-developments.co.uk/evo8tune.html

Should be a good 400/400 package assuming it's the MR edition?

Leaves £2k in the bank towards suspension/brakes/clutch mods

i dissagree also!

i have just bought an evo 8 MR over the weekend with give or take 400 bhp at around 1.6 bar and it drives like any other car for dailey use, lively enough off boost not laggy at all and goes like fook when you want it its a perfect everyday car!

as above 260 bhp for the uk one then you can get fq300 320, 330 340 360 and the daddy 400 mine started off life as a FQ320

MR gives you bigger turbo, cams etc and is a bit lghter and has much better interior and darkend headlights, look in the gallery i have just put mine in there

MR is an addition to the FQ range. Fq300 MR is better than an Fq300. you can't get a none FQ version of the MR

They start to bend rods past a certain point as well dont they?? Seem to remember 400bhp sticking in my head regarding the boost needed to get there and people saying that pushing things past this level would require stronger rods. (...and possibly machined stock/aftermarket pistons?)

Cheers,
Grant

I'm on 575 bhp at the fly on standard ECU and 1000cc injectors.

Nothing wrong with standard management if you go to the right people

For £1k drive in drive out, you can get a Rod job off Norris Designs - good for up to 550 bhp on standard pistons.

Decent turbo like an FP Green on S205 or even a RED and you're knocking on 450-550 bhp as long as supporting mods are covered (decat, pump, 3" exhaust and elbow, plugs air filter etc)

Add a decent clutch (£1000+ for a twin plate) bigger injectors (£300 new) and a few odds and sods and I reckon you'll have maxed your £4k budget, but have a good working 450+ bhp

Best to get a car with some mods on it already, buying all parts brand new they are pricey. Buying 2nd hand is far cheaper when you know what you're looking for and at!

Si

Just sold my MR FQ320 2 weeks ago and miss it deeply. MR also has the Ally roof to save weight too.
