Was on the M60 last night between J25 & 25 when a silver saff came flying past. Just as he past me there was a loud pop and lots of thick blue smoke came from the exhaust followed what sounded like bits of metal bouncing down the road. The car was still on the hard shoulder 30 mins later when I went past in the other direction. Im just interested in what could have happened, anyone got any ideas?

im guessing a turbo shat itself

 

turbo and or complete melt down perhaps

 

I was doing a far old speed when he came past, I think but not 100% sure he was in forth gear as the engine note changed as maybe he was changing into fith then bang. The smoke was that thick that the traffic had to slow right down to about 30
