Went round the 'Ring in one last year and thought it was nice. Went well. Couldnt really hear anything until you opened the windows, damn quality built German cars.

Overall though, i absolutely LOVE them. Everything you need. Look proper good. Go like stink. All the toys. Just cant beat it.

Not alot of money either! Do it!

The Audi is more powerful, weighs 150KG less and on paper officially accelerates faster so I doubt your E39 M5 "Eats Them".

Thats based on standard cars so apologies if your M5 is not standard.

I have never owned one but,

A guy i know had one and he sold it as he said it wasnt a very involving drive
He went from that to a new shaped M5 which he says is much better. More involved.

Id buy one if i was only going to do 1 or 2 track days a year though as they do make an awesome road car

After 2nd gear the standard M5 pulls away quite easily we found.

Both V8s sound nice side by side-like an orchestra!

There are 4 of the buggers at my work.....it's a proper way of inspiring your way to the top! It's torcher walking past them everyday as they look stunning!
The noise is brilliant even in low revs.

I so want one, but no way could afford one right now!

They struggle to make book figures though dont they? IIRC they mostly make high 390's rather than the quoted 414bhp according to a couple of owners that are 'into' them over on Scoobynet.

Cheers,
Grant

Avant or saloon, IMO the avant looks way cooler. RS6s' aren't bad price wise either now. Prefer the RS4 though.
