as above im gettin fmic and was wondering to get the turbo cooler aswell, what you guys think?

 

I'd get the Airtec one only cost around £78 posted, i personally cant see why not to get one, unless you dont have much money, i brought mine while rebuilding my RS back up. so i aint drove the car yet but it must be worth it driving around the busy roads in swindon.

 

Exactly i restored my s2 from ground up, when i got it set up by harvey gibbs he mentioned to get a new fmic and look into a turbo cooler, my s2 is a everyday car now.

 

I've got one too worth getting one plus they don't cost much to buy and fit.

 

Does anyone have any before/after figures for their oil temps as it's really just an oil cooler?

 

oil cooler ????. your all on about the cooler that cools the water coming out of the turbo before entering the rad arent you ????. the one which sits beside the pro alloy fmic.

Oh! Most people that refer to a 'Turbo' cooler mean a small rad that cools the oil!
Dont see the point in a tiny extra rad cooling the water before going into the main rad? Although I spose every little helps!

Myself and a lot of other people dont run the water cooling on our turbo's to keep water temps down.
Just have to make sure we idle our cars for a minute or two before switching off to prevent heat soak in the turbo and cooking the oil.

 

I cant personally see the point of trying to cool the turbo with water anyway, how can you cool a 600+ degree turbo with nearly boiling water

Thats what i thought to, complete waste of money.

 

Even though it's called a Turbo Cooler it doesnt actually cool the turbo, it cools the water as it EXIT's the turbo......... apparently to prevent temperature spikes in the water system?! At least that what it says on the Pro Alloy website.

As a Turbo Cooler I think it's pointless (as it doesnt cool the turbo!), but maybe just as an extension of your rad it cant hurt, extra cooling is always welcome.

 

Didnt they do a test in fast ford and it dropped a few degrees of the temps especially while sat in traffic after a blast.

 

Yes Rob they did, and they were praised for the price of what they do. if only for a few degrees.....if you dont have money to splash out on stuff like this then dont bother, but any RS owner should have money to throw it at.

 

If you disconnect the water from running through the turbo anyhow there is no neeed to cool it as it wont be going through in the first place so no need for a cooler!

 

Yup, that costs nothing and brings your temps down!

 

just like a dump valve you lot all say you dont need them !!!but if you just spent £1200 on a roller bearing turbo and didnt run a dump valve or the water you would be most upset when it fucks its self. so i run both but each to there own
