Default Stupid Boost Gauge Question

The S1 I have just bought has this gauge in it:

Could someone please explain to me the purpose of a boost gauge and how you use them when driving, if you know what I mean?

Apologies for my stupidity, but it's best to ask than not really be sure what it's all about.

Thanks

its measuring the pressure of the air as it enters the engine...

a turbocharger compresses the air to allow you to get more air into there...

boost is a measrement of this...

when its reading 0 its at normal atmospheric pressure, which is the same as a non-turbo car will read on full throttle

as the boost starts to come in youll notice the gauge swing round and more and more boost is being made (air is being compressed more) eventually itll stop rising and itll hold a set pressure (when the wastegate starts to open on the turbo hich allows exhaust gasses to bypass the turbocharger t stp it overspeeding)

basiclaly take it for a drive, see what the gauige does...

i the gauge ever starts to do anything different... worry

ps what boost does yours hit on the gauge?

Thanks for the reply mate.

I can't rev. it above 3000rpm at the moment so it's barely boosting up at all, when the engines run in and it's set up properly I'll be able to find out.

What should it be?

Theres a boost gague as std on EscCossies too, i thought youd be used to one by now (you driver an esc cos right?).

dont know your spec, but id be guessing on that gague going to 1bar and being safe, but if you dont know the spec AND your still running it in then it obv wont be setup so get it setup before you give it loads or youl just blow the fucker up (and itl be faster once setup).

Thanks for the replys guys.

I don't have an Escort Cosworth yet, still looking for the right one.

I used to have a FRST but that didn't have a gauge.

The S1 is chipped, by a certain Mr Bayjoo.

I'll see what it's like when it's run in and set up properly.

Actually one is yours and one is Yum's!

Thanks for the advice.

Needle to right = Hold wheel tight.

You gonna get standard grill & relocate the gauge to the a-pillar? Think it will look better..and you don't wanna be looking in the middle of the dash when you are holding on tight!

Cheers mate.

I think I'll be bidding on that.

Can't even see it when I'm driving anyway! How much for a pillar mounted one?

Thanks
