Default Fuel tank breather systems...

... why would my in boot fuel tank have a 4 Mtr long breather pipe off of it? I vent by the return and then goes into the cabin round by the roof and under parcel shelf on a 4mtr loop before exiting by the exhaust in the N/S rea wheel arch?!?!? Why so long?
I have seen the breather just vented into the filler neck before now, I think Reyland on his Pro alloy tanks, is this better or more adviseable?

i think its somethink to do with if the car rools over fuel dont splash out if the pipe came out the top and went streat down and your fuel sloshed it could slosh out were if the pipe goes higher than the tank and then down its hasent got much chance imo any way lol

Isn't it an evap line? To prevent the tank getting pressureised in elevated temperatures and thus being at a higher risk of exploding.

JAmes.

bang on that, its MSA rules that the vent must not leak if the car rolls.
