sounds to me like the 1st time they painted it, they ended up with solvent pop, where it essentially goes off too fast, leaving the pin holes all over (my removed panels all did this when painted)

it is usually down to the mix, sometimes if its mixed with too much hardener, or if speedy hardener/thinners are used and then not mixed correctly

on the flip side to this, the 2nd time when the paint didnt dry, that sounds like the exact opposite, where the paint was mixed maybe with too little hardener, or standard was used when mixed as speedy, so instead of going off mega quick and solvent popping, it just doesnt go off

1st time round they could try arguing the toss with the paint suppliers and saying they gave them the wrong stuff, because in my case this did happen, but to then go to the complete opposite, just sounds like an idiot mixing the paint. you do mention during wet flatting the paint they managed to flat through the new and the old paint, that sounds fairly bloody amateur, so id say the sort of person who does that is the sort of person who wouldnt be the best at reading a mixing cup lol

and to then say they want to paint in solid 2k paint, says to me they just want to throw a load on, and then plan on flatting out the imperfections they know they will get, as they could then get any old retard to throw the paint on, then just flat it to death with no danger of flatting through a clearcoat

Obviously imcompetent as you have seen with your own eyes. If you left a deposit then I'd ask nicely for it back as you're unhappy with the work.... if you didnt leave a deposit just take your car back and take it somewhere with a good rep.

Either way it sounds like you're never going to get a good quality paint job from these guys so why prolong the misery?

think they want to come away from 2k now don't they?

I would be tempted to remove the car and take it else where, they dont sound like they are going to be compitent at getting the job to a standard your happy at.

as said sounds like they have someone who's either a complete wally or isnt time served doing this work... i would relay back to them that the car will be getting removed from their premises and painted elsewhere as theyve not just mucked it up once, but twice as well now and still want to (probably) fuck it up a 3rd time.

only prob is now they will have added extra cost to the job elsewhere getting rid of their fuckups!

best bet is to speak to someone like consumer advice and explaining and see where you actually stand!

r they taking the old paint off when they re-paint it ??? if not your car will end up heavier than the moon! original paint, 2 coats of fuck up, and a 3rd fuck up to go ! have you picked up a tin of paint recently? they aint light!

asking your permission sounds like theyre going to hit you with the extra costs for spraying it twice.

Id let them do it in clear over base on the condition the 2k high solid is removed. Tell them if its not done right this time you are taking the car from them to somewhere else to get it done properly and they are going to pay the bill.

Personaly I'd call it a day and stick it on a trailer and take it else where mate. My body shop has had my 3dr for 14mnths now But, his workmanship and perfinicky nature leave me secure in the knowledge that its going to be worth the wait....and thats the security/peace of mind you want for your own car (just find someone who doesnt need a life time to get it done )....either that or just persist with them until it's right, which could be a while by the sounds of it

tell me about it! To be fair to him though he's a one man band thats trying to squeeze mine in between all the regular jobs and contract work. In this time though it's had its very own prep booth all to its self....been sat on axle stands for the entire time, with the wheels sat at my house (aint leaving these rims anywhere...owe me too much headach and grief they do lol) so its not like its being shunted all over the hockey.

tbh I dont mind as ive only just had chance to get the new garage up ready for it and its also given me time to source all the parts I need for the reassembly. Its rounding off now though, should be home in the next few weeks.

dont pay any money up front mate! wait till the end and knock a couple of hundred quid off for wasting your time and tell him that when he stated he could do the job no probs , tell him to see your pride and joy in that state hes lucky he aint had his head opened with an axe . the cunt who sprayed my rs1800 said it would take a week so after 2 with no phone call i went down to his garage 2 days running he was shut up when i quiet clearly stated to him i need my car for work . well he got a call saying that hed better get down there , if not i was coming round his house to kick his fookin head in , next day car was ready fookin miracle
he was a mate as i only used him but not anymore
i learnt a good lesson , never trust anyone and dont be scared to say anything as your paying them good money to do your car!

Has fuck all to do with the suppliers mate they would have given them the same paint as the first time it was painted, you can get the odd problem but its normally to do with colour matching more than the products itself.

As said if the paint looked ok when it was put on the first time then when u saw it after it was likely to be solvent pop, which could actually be quite a few things tbh, putting on the coats too quickly after another, baking it at the wrong temp etc etc.
If they hadn't flatted out the popping and painted over it the second time it'll still come back as the paint would sink into the pinholes, as said sounds like the paint wasnt mixed properly the 2nd time either.

tbh 2k paint is fucking easy to use and im really surprised given the choice someone would prefer base and lacquer over it!! it takes twice as long as and by the time u buy the base then lac it costs more.

BUT if they want to do it let them mate and see what happens, but if poss make sure they strip all the paint thats had the problems off as it could still cause problems later on.

Althou they should know that so

a would simply remove the car without payin them a penny and take it to somewhere capable of the job , as they clearly are,nt which sounds worrying

also where about are you located out of interest as am sure a few people will be able to piont you in the rite direction of a good bodyshop local to you .

If you dont mind abit of a travel, there is a garage in Adlington, about 6miles outside of Stockport (Manchester way) that arent bad with the old spray gun.

theres a bloke on here whos car has went into a bodyshop to have work done,,,, at this time hes older brother went traveling for a year,,,, came BACK from traveling and decided to learn how to do car body work as a profession,,, spent hes time learning, got a job in a bodyshop and then sprayed this guys run about car a totally new colour had he STILL never had hes car back,,,, he got it back after he told the bloke hes about to buy hes house so prob wont have the cash to pay the bill if its finished......

oh and hes mate has a saxo in there..... getting loads of trick bodywork done HUGE bodykit and blah blah blah..... when he took it there he was into bodykits due to hes age and not going fast,,,,, then whilst that was in being done he got a fiesta xr2. turbo'd it... fitted 5 engines then finally fitted a zetec turbo,,,,,,, got bored of it, broke it and bought a cossie,,,,,, bored of that and broke it and is now building a even sicker spec zetec mk1 fiesta,,,,,, A

............................. AND THE BLOKE STILL HAS HES SAXO AND STILL AINT FINISHED IT !!!

hes actually grown out of bodykits and there has been 3 more fast and furious films that have been wrote,,,, cast,,,,,,,, filmed,,,,,,, edited,,,,,, been at the cinema,,,,,,, released on dvd and also been shown on ITV since he took the car in there

im thinking of taking a car there to have the mirrors sprayed rather than renew my car tax,,,,,, ill just sorn it and take it there for something sprayed up as its cheeper than renting garage !!!
