Default mk2 rs2000 cosworth build new everything.updated 09.05.10

hi guys just wanted to post up what ive got, what ive done and what im going to do

ok so two weeks ago i get me a escort mk2 rs2000
why ?

well i have wanted to build a classic for many years (well ever since a sold my first car mk2 1.6 sport that me and my dad played with.

so after being burgled and lossing my two show bike i hand built from total loss bikes i then used the silly amount of money i get to buy a classic to build
(zx10r cost me £28k to build got £4500 back the r6 was sold so had no insurance)

so i had £4500 to buy and build a car

found a 1978 rs2000 on ebay they guy had been working on it for 18years
it was completely stripped downto just a shell

item was listed a every think there apart from engine and gearbox

listed
woulod cup crossmumber
atlas axle
4linked
panhard
x-pack
quick rack
roller top mounts
bistien shocks
full trim

made an offer and got me a car

hired a ven and trailer and picked it up after a 4hour drive there

shell looked good
had all the hard work done all ready (well so i thought)

loaded evrything into the van
put the car on the trailer and headed home

now the fun part

i wanted to start at the rear and work forward

so i sent the 5link bars to powder coat (blue)
ordered new poly bushes and rose joints

as i was waiting for them to come back i striped down the atlas rear axle
ready for powder coat

ordered my
4 x cibie lights
hydraulic handbrake
weber twin 45s
rear Gaz coilovers
front Gaz coilovers

so as i was waiting for parts to comeback from blasting and powder coating i got the guy round to check the car over ready for welding in the grp4 roll cage

well i shxt a brick

the 4 link boxes are in the wrong place they where fitted to low to allow for rear seat to be used
the rear turrets are in the wrong place to low and wrong angle

so be for he can fit
large gear box tunnle
large diff tunnels front and rear
weld in strut brace
mod bulk head to take cosworth (just in case)

he has to cut everythin out and redo

so i have ordered new 4link boxes
new turrets
new mounts for panhard and coilovers

car is going of next week to have all the work done

so as im waiting im wotking under the bonnet to smooth everything off for a nice finish when painted

here are some pics

Gutted for you mate what with the bikes (im a biker too) and with the parts being welded in wrong on the car, at least it can be undone and repaired properly even if it costs money its repairable..

ok so it go's on

the car is going into have welding and replacement parts fitted making it a rolling shell wow now im getting somewhere lol

once thats done he will do the full grp4 rollcage

i will take pictures and post them as work is being done

the painter is going to have a look round the car and give me a price to paint inside and out in white

so i can then sticker it up

im not sure if to do the rollcage white or blue ?

and do i do the 4 x cibies white or blue

or paint the rears white and paint the chrome rings blue?

got to get this right

looks like a good basis you've got there are you leaving the x pack on and going for the nosecone front end ?

i'd go for blue on the cage

with the adjustable tca and the adjustble compression struts its not bad

it didnt hit at all so i slammed i on the the floor and it now just hits so a little love tap with a hammer and now its fine

but its not going that low ??????

just have the door bars to be added before it go's to paint.
