Default Computer probs any help really appreciated

Hi,
I know this is a Ford forum but I thought there might be someone on here who may be able to help.
My computer is driving me mad
Basically what has happened is on friday after using the pc for a few hours when i restarted it would load upto the black screen with the xp logo then when it was about to load the dekstop it would restart and it kept doing this until i re-installed windows, it then did this again yesterday and doesnt work again until I re-install windows, i also get the checkdisk program loading each time i start windows checking my disks for consistancy.
I have tried the maxtor check program on my hdd and it came back fine, has anyone got any ideas? any help really appreciated.

Cheers Dan

Start the computer up, and as soon as it's powerd on, press the F8 key on the keyboard, this will prompt you with a startup menu, choose Safe mode, it should load, and will say windows is running in safe mode, click yes, then click start, click run, type in msconfig, and then click on selective startup, and then untick load startup group items, click apply, then ok, and then restart the computer.

Thanks for the reply mate. I have reinstalled windows since the prob and it is ok for the moment, it normally does it after about 2 days but the file system is corrupt. Once it does start restarting thought it won't load up even through safe mode

I just had a look in the Event log and I have had NTFS error 55 quite a few times but ran the maxtor disk checker prog and it didn't report any bad sectors. Is there anything else apart from the hdd that can corrupt the file system?

Cheers
