Hey all i just wanted to know would any gearbox fit in my mk4 escort - its a 1.3litre bonus - but its got a 4 speed gearbox..

Could I just get a s2 rs turbo gearbox and do a stright swap?

 

yeah, any of the 5 speeds will fit straight on, XR etc

possibly an issue with an rs box as it uses the 220mm clutch, not sure if thats a problem or anything, but worth checkin just incase

on a 1.3 just a standard non LSD 5 speed would be fine and dandy, i doubt grip is an issue with sub 60bhp lol

 

wats non lsd? ... and why would grip be an issue? sorry im a newbie lol

 

proper RS 'box comes with a limited slip diff

essentially helps to increase grip, stops just 1 wheel spinning as with a standard diff, to keep it nice n simple

just sayin i doubt getting off the line with 1.3 power is your main priority, so maybe just buy a normal 5 speed box without an LSD (so anything except rs turbo 'box) and save yourself some money in the process

 

You'll need a 5 speed selector aswell as there differant. id have a look local and see if some ones breaking an xr3i then you can kill two birds with one stone.

i had a little look on ebay people are just selling xr3i gearboxes...what does a selector look like? thats the link for the ebay gearbox..

the selector is the 2 metal rods under the car running from the 'box to the stick itself

 

selecors are everywhere mate its harder to find a4 speed selector lol
just get any escort mk4 that will 99% have the 5 speed it just goes from the box to the gear knob and is held on by a 17 and a 13 at the box and 4 10mm bolts at the knob
