I know you can get different spark plugs and some with two or three prong things that the spark goes between, but do they actually make any difference, what are the advantages / disadvantages of the uprated ones? and what actually is the difference?

I am going to be getting some new ones this week for my car, is there any point in getting the more expensive ones or should I just stick with the standard NGK ones?

What would you recommend?

My brother has got a GTI-6 and hes got some sort of expencive ones, he said they burn cooler therfore being more efficient!

 

twin and triple electrode plugs give no extra performance gains as there is only ever one spark, the advantage is that as the electrodes wear down the spark always takes the easiest route, this being the closest electrode, therefore they last twice as long before service intervals

Buy some standard cheap NGK plugs.

 

I have some IK31s in the cossie and they have only done about 1000 miles and they are knackered

I used IK31 and they did not last either, but now use IK27 and they last very well, they don't foul either unlike the 31's did, as they are hotter running.
I have tried multi electrode plugs in a lot of cars, some are better, seem a bit smoother, some seem worse.
I have always found a positive result using iridium though.
