Default Broken diffs in a 4x4 sierra cosworth

Ive had my R+D dog box in my sierra for about 2 months now and already ive broken both diffs. Ive only did about 10 5500rpm launches in the wet with road tyres when the front diff housing split(see links to photos)
Replaced that, then after another 10 or so similar launches, the rear diff let go.

My plan for now is just to put the strenghtening plate in the front and get a quaife lsd unit for the rear. Will the crown wheel and pinion be the next to go?
What other options do i have?

you all need an R&D front diff minimum and a 9 inch ffd rear
standard ones are just that standard

It will work out cheaper in the long run than constant wreck and replace, and they will always sell for near enough the money you paid for them

thats possibly true but no way im going to pay that sort of money as my car wouldnt warrant it, may be a quafie front but that will be my max

what are r&d diffs price wise 3k upwards?

anywhere between £1500-£3000 for the front. Motorsport rear 9" is around 2.5-3k

see 1500 isnt a bad price as its the same as a new quaife one

i know quaife arnt brilliant and people have destroyed them but im sure it will do me, maybe if the rd diffs were similat priced id consider it but there not so i wont even bother looking for one even though when i have done in the past i carnt find shit on the company

if you buy proper parts they are always worth proper money when you come to sell, i had my 9" diff for 5 years and got MUCH more than i paid for it when i sold it

Not sure what power its running as it hasnt been fully tuned yet. Has all the right bits but its only on a T38 turbo so def cant be anymore than 500 id say...
Well i think R+D diffs are out of the question at the moment..£3500 for a front one on ebay!
The rear diff has broken the planet gears so a gripper or quaife unit would prob solve that. Problem is how much torque can the crown and pinion take.

thats all well and fine saying a 9" diff will be worth more in a few years, my problem is that i never sell anything..I either keep it for ever or break it

I´m pretty impressed you can destroy that, as me and other guys i know havent been able to do it yet, even fredde uses std diffs with over 700bhp.
My rear diff has over 200.000km on it now, never broken down and in my possesion always over 330bhp

dont know how you guys can get away with that, i exploded 2 diffs in a matter of months and i think 6 cv joints both front and rears

i bit the bullet and put a 9inch diff in it with brand new 2wd cv joints, FFD 7 speed box, quaife thickwall front casing with atb diff unit, other than shearing a group A prop..i got a propper one made up after that and breaking the quaife thickwall casing it was pretty much bullet proof

I was runnig gripper front and rear diffs with no problems.
Warren it may be worth fitting a 71/2" rear diff if your going to be changing anyway, even if you just trim the housing to fit the beam on your car.

the reason I ask is that my mate races F2 stock cars and he swears by them, pretty good value too http://www.racecar.co.uk/gripper/

Warren,

I'm after a couple of 100mm output flanges for my rear LSD unit. As your's isn't going to be repaired, can you let me know if they were damaged in the break up??

Cheers Clive.

Hay might offset the cost slightly of your new unit...
