Default MOT question!!!!

Ok, quick one for you, when they put a car on the gas analyzer to test the emissions does it have to be up to normal op. temerature. i.e. let the fans cut in??? I would say yes at a educated guess, but is there anything stating this as fact??

yes the Mot guide lines specify you have to get the vehicle up to running temp and purge the engine before doing the emission test

There is a question asked on the screen specifically relating to engine temp, ie is it up to temp, it is fairly common practice on some to let the fan come on then do test as soon as it stops, being just slightly colder than fully warm can cause a fail where a fully warm will pass, my mot man always does the above.

My local mot place has a probe that they shove down the dipstick tube to test the temperature of the oil.

The probe is there for cars that DON'T have temp gauges like KA, air cooled cars etc, otherwise a visual indication is suffecient.

Do you not just use a cigarette lighter to save time anyway, or was I trained wrong?
