just put my saff back on the road after engine rebuild, before it broke temp gauge sat half way to 3/4`s and stayed hot for a while after fans were on ( about 60 seconds) i thaught temp sender, thermostat and ally rad would cure it but no such luck, any of you had probs with the dash gauge itself as i never had a cossie that done this, it runs a 4x4 head, harness and 2/4wd clocks im not sure untill i check partnumber.
normally put fans on with cossies (manual overide) and temp drops right off but this stays hot for ages going upto the N on norm, too hot in my eyes but the motor doesnt seem to be excessivly hot when checking pipes etc.
any help muchly appreciated as hot cossies wory me!
cheers, Sean

The temp gauge on the dash is pish mate so it might be worth getting yourself an after market gauge and fitting it
are you running a 4x4 stat and housing? as 4x4 stats are notoriously un-reliable and need changing from time to time

Mine runs like this Sean, it has ally rad on it, swirl pot and all samco hoses, had new stat, water pump, msd low temp fan switch, temp sendor, full coolant system flush and change. It still sits just below N and fans cut in on the N. Same as yours, nothing seems excessively hot when checking it.
Had me worried for a while but I have drove it just keeping my eye on things and its always fine as it is. I still dont like the needle up that high though so if you find a cure, without taking the needle off and refitting it where I want it to sit, then Id love to know.
*edit* Im sure I have some clocks in the garage I know where they used to sit on my old Sapph at normal running temp so may give them a try over the weekend if I get any time to do so. Ill post if it works or not

aye, spent 3 hours wiring fans in manual tonight before i left the garage mate.
im pretty sure its just the clocks havin a hissy fit as sometimes the temp drops right off when you turn ignition off and back on about 5 secs later! Kind of obvious when i think about it!
How you 2 lads doing by the way, never spoke for a while!
im running www.eclipse-performance.com in sunderland now if you need owt. Jap specialist but it has its advantages

i can even touch the ally headertand and rad without melting my fingertips when the temp is in the N........... i hate not knowing exactly what an engine is doing, i watch the gauges more than the road in front

If the fans come on and then go off some time later, then they are cooling, so all is ok, apart from a temp gauge that you don't like even though it is in the "norm" range.
The gauge is VERY sensitive once up to temp, and even just a few degrees makes a big big difference on gauge.
Mine runs on the top of the "O" mostly but have a fan light in top corner of tacho, a blue led that comes on with fans, they come on at 95C and go off at 92C never misses a beat, you're worrying unduly.

might not be related but i know 100% the motor is NOT getting hot, i can touch the hoses when its in the red etc, BUT............ i suggest you check ASAP......... wiring harness that runs from the front pannel over the inner wing had chaffed through and was earthing out and judging by the state of the harness i nearly lost the car due to fire on the way home,, only noticed as the HID lights started flickering so i pulled over to check the bulbs and noticed all the white residue on the front pannel!!! very very very lucky it didnt go up in flames, i always have a fire extinguisher in my cossies and this is why.
ordered water temp gauge today so will keep you posted but im sure its all down to earthing out on the front pannel. its in a right cunt of a place to repair aswell, rad out, huge cooler out, bumper off and lights out. so much for it going for a test on monday, scrap that idea! gutted
**i also have a blue led wired in with fan opperation, next to the ALS and fuel pump oned on the dash surround

Ill have a look at mine Sean but dont think mines earthing cos its not flying up into the red, just sitting a bit higher than Id like.
Bloody glad you spotted that tho, I always carry an extinguisher too you'd be mad not to in a Cossie.
Think a fan light is on my "to do" list now

Glenn, i stopped getting reminders about the meets on my fone mate.
any chance of still sending texts please?
i split up with my 3yr partner few month before xmas thats why i never came but i defo want to show my face and eyeball the cars and have a crack on etc, also promote my business....... hand out fliers and offer help/advice etc and we are CHEAP!!!! Extra discounts for any club member that reccomends us on a web forum etc
Gis a bell and we can have a chat about advertising etc if you want, put a package together for me maby?
I was soooo excited when it fired up for the first time on tuesday but after numerous faults it developed within 30 miles i rememberd very quickly why i wanted rid of this particular cossie ASAP!(virtually ALL down to the last fuckin nimrod of an owner, yes you read PF forums and know who you are you tw*t)
before the motor sh1t itself last june it needed a massive cuddle and a general mechanical magic wand on the non-visual stuff.
Bodywork wise it was faultless, one off paint and hand crafted Rouse splitter and carbon goodies galore, more to come (IF it stays!)
1)front pads
2)side repeaters not working
3)sqeaking rear seats when nobody in the back
4)knock on O/S/F suspension
5)blowing exhaust
6)weird vibration through floor when ignition turned on
7)various strange boost settings
THINGS I DID TO FIX THESE AFORE MENTIONED FAULTS
1)Calipers absolutly shafted, no dust seals at all and only 1 piston on n/s was working ( 1x yellowstuff pads, 2x CRN disks, 1x big redd repair kits, 2x powdercoated calipers)
2)wiring to side repeaters cut off flush from harness! repaired and replaced.
3)what can i say........ no bolts at all keeping rear seats in place!
4)whoever fitted the strut brace used bolts so long that they pushed the strut top down so much that when the centre nut was tightened it only managed 1/3 of the threads used to fully tighten it down! (and the last owner clearly used a windy gon to tighten it up as the threads are propperly fucked only in that position!
5)i`ve never seen a genuine Garrett T4 with a T35 style .63 exhaust housing but this had one fitted......... with one nut/bolt in top left corner and the other 2 wernt even threaded or even pre drilled to accept a stud/bolt or even touched with any sort of hole at all!
oh and the centre box had been cut out and some fuckwit had tried to use flat plate very gashly rolled(hammered!!) arround the 2 ends of exhaust where the box was cut out and used to live, needless to say it was blowing its tits off and was sitting against the propshaft, im sure you dont need me to explain that this needed thrown away and a full fresh system fitted!
6)fuel pump cabletied to the boot floor.............. no explenation needed!
7)fuckwit last owner decided to wire amal valve in this way:
battery live to switch, switch to amal valve live, amal valve earth to screw keeping valve in place
i stopped making notes at this point LOL
LOL is a nearvous LOL, as i have discovered the wiring.......... huge amplifier power cable from battery through a fuse and into the rear boot area of the car......... not insulated and left lying open ended in the spare wheel well!
after taking the ECU out to swop from big power chip to standard one for running in, i found 2 eyelets next to the ECU mount bolts(2wd) they were both black wires so i thaught they needed earthed where ECU bolted on, obviously i checked them first and they turned out to be:
one radio earth
one linked live radio feed from ignition!
driven the car twice and already i just want to forget about the fact i have well over 12 grand in the car and just get rid of it ASAP, for that ammount of notes i should have got a nogaro blue RS4 sat in the back yard and not an old sierra that numerous fuckwits have nailed together and advertised that car hasnt changed spec since the last owner/builder.......
love the cossie to bits for the fact its a total one off but i hate it as mentioned before the last owner got it and propperly fucked it within 8 months of ownership, propper have-a-go hero max power style
cant beleive even now i looked the car over 100% and couldnt fina anything wrong with it in any way
maby just blame myself for buying a shitter?????!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

thing that fucks me off most is i check cars over just about every day for our customers that are buying cars (or selling them) and want an honest un-buyest oppinion.
Why the fuck did i pay 5 grand for this lump of ......... well......... oddball looking but proven 458 horsepower (with piss poor intercooler and shoddy pulley timing on L6!! again "dyno proved" by a certain *MS that mapped the car)
