Its his pension.

I cannot see any reason why he should give it up.

You could sack the board of directors that gave him the job or set his pension in the first place but you cannot change the rules after the game has finished.

he had an £8 millio pension pot

the bank was able to give him another £8 million if they wanted to, at their descresion

the government knew it was there but are now saying that if they had know it was based on the banks signing it over on a volentary basis they would have stopped it as they though it was compulsory

someone didn't read the contract and his mates gave him a big lump of cash

how theythink they are going to get any of it back it beyond me, it's a legally binding contract and it's just the politicians covering their arse by being public about making a noise

Is Gordon gonna give up his pension, cos his light regulation and setup useless FSA, partly caused the mess.
Forget Fred's pension, Gordon's tax on pension funds has f**ked up alot more ordinary peoples' company pensions, just waiting for the big penny to drop on that one!

Im in 2 minds over this. His Pension clearly was linked to how the company did under his tenure, you an bet if it was a 20something Billion profit he'd be getting a damn site more!

Its £30K a month after deductions. What sort of lifestyle does he actually lead? That's more than the average wage! Whether the gment will pursue legal avenues to remove a lot of it remains to be seen

However, as Nick said at the top, Blair gets a nice pension as will Brown and they've pretty much duo-ed to kill the country by being slack twats. And I'd point that a lot of other compamies employees. (Normally anything with a Union) don't always give their best in exchange for a decent pension. As noted it's the amount of money that annoys people rather than what he did.

Question: Did Nick Leeson get a pension from Barings? realtively similar in that one mans actions/leadership directly led to a catastrophe.

Well there are LOTS of people that are shit at their jobs.. but their earnings still count towards a pension scheme! ,,, if he could afford that as a pension, can you imagine what his actual salary must have been

that said, an interesting point raised on the news was.
technically the company went bust.. so in theory he should get fook all.
however our taxpayers money has bailed the company out, as it was a rather important one (apparently )

to be honest, its 6 and two 3's. i imagine it will all just die down in a week or so,
and noone will ever know!? lol

I think its disgusting personally but it just sums this country up, the rich just keep on getting richer while the ordinary people are left to struggle on in the midst of this huge fuck up.
I'm no financial wizzkid but even i know that if you keep ending money to people who cant afford to pay it back, sooner or later there's going to be a problem!!

Surely, as it was tax payers money that saved the bank, we should have a say in wether he gets this pension??

Have to agree with the above though, i think all the fuss thats being made of it at the moment is just politicians trying to make themselves look like they care and after a couple of weeks, it'll all die down and we'll never hear any more of it!!

Fact is hes only getting his pension because the uk government bailed out RBS.

If it was another sort of business and it went under he would not of got that pension at all.

So he's retired and has 8 million pounds in the bank... thats more than enough to give him an amazing lifestyle in the last 20-30 years of his life. Should pull the plug on the 12k per week that he's creaming off just now IMO.

Cheers,
Grant
