Default Logbook question

My father-in-law passed away last week and i,ve been asked to sell the car for my wifes mum
The question the log book is in the father in laws name still
Can i sign the logbook in my name when it sells?

100% yes. So long as its signed it gets processed at DVLA.

Surely the car is now part of his estate, therefore the solicitors dealing with the will etc need to know about it?
