Default Can YB NA Heads Be Used for turbo application

Basically i've been offered a complete engine but is Normally Aspirated, but at the price he wants its worth buying just for the head alone, as it been completely worked on both sides and polished by a well known company.

The way i see it NA worked heads are developed to allow air to flow as quickly and as smoothly as possible into the combustion chamber?

So what im asking is could this head be removed, Turbo cams be put in and used on a proper YB lump for turbo use? or would this be completely wrong?

Also when doing NA YB's do they deck the head to raise CR or generally raise CR up by piston choice and decking the block?

Sorry its such a twisted question but im bored and when im bored i spend money

The head is irrelavant. Its the compression ratio/pistons that are the problem !

Most turbo cars run 8:1 or less but N/A cars run over 9:1 some 11:1 depending
on how they are tuned.

YB heads are best suited for N/A when they have been skimmed too many times
and are below the head maximum deck height.
However, if the pistons are modified to suit the desired turbo compression ratio required
then this can be overcome to a certain extent.

cheers simon, maybe i wrote it wrong.

i would only use the NA head everything else would be sold on, and a 200 block low comp bottom end would be built.

Trouble is fully worked heads are hard to come by second hand.

Ryan, Good YB heads may as well be made of solid gold the amount they cost !

Its no wonder so many cossies are stolen and are never seen again.

AS I found out as few years ago when some thieving tw*t stole mine
out of my shed as I was rebuilding the engine.

yeah i know simon, bottom ends are easy to source along with new 200 blocks but finding a proper worked head is proving a task.

This head that i've been offered is a work of art, im getting him to check the height of the head to see if its usable.

Just wondered if there ported in a different way to turbo'ed head, i guess they both are trying to achieve the same job, there both trying to cram in as much air into the combustion chamber as quickly as possible, and getting it to exit the same way.

You tune an N/A engine much in the same way as a turbo engine.
(excluding CR and cam overlap timing).
The better an engine is N/A then the less boost you need to get power !

sounds promising then simon, so if deck height is spot on, then it could be a go go go

Get it, the head could well be ported as well as a "stage 3" turbo head if it's a serious aspirated lump.

Oh, and how much for the pistons

If it's an aspirated YB, then I'm interested in the pistons mate! Not loaded though
