Default cosworth lightend flywheel

Ive got a 400bhp engine waiting to go in my saff so I thought while theres no engine in there get the flywheel lightend,problem is the engineer i took it to rekons 400 brake will rip it to shreds if its lightend??,now is he talkin out his rear or will it fall to bits,anyone with experiance?

If you skim the original one you will weaken it and it might, afterall (and I might be wrong about cossie flywheels) they are only cast iron and when you start shaving bits off they become weak.

Pick up a burtons catalague and get yourself a nice proper steel one. Probably cost the same as getting the original lightened anyway.

someone on here (LONG time ago!think was karl) said that lightening flywheels on cossies and rs turbos was a bit of a waste of time,do you really need it with 400bhp?i certainly didnt!

My engine builer said the same thing.

Make sure the bottom end is balanced (inc flywheel) but don't bother with lightning on a big power turbo engine

Hi
i used a fidanza lightened flywheel & it made the car very difficult to launch, ive now gone back to a Standard one. Dont bother its a waste of time in all but a race car.

mine was lightened and balanced and we had well over 400bhp and never had any problems with it at all
i dont see how it could be ripped to shreds with 400 bhp , bent or buckled with heat maybee but anything else ! i dont think so

Mad mac,im sure cossie ones are steel mate?,the one in my car was anyhow.so really not worth getting it done and spending the money somwhere else.....like down the pub
