If you skim the original one you will weaken it and it might, afterall (and I might be wrong about cossie flywheels) they are only cast iron and when you start shaving bits off they become weak.

Pick up a burtons catalague and get yourself a nice proper steel one. Probably cost the same as getting the original lightened anyway.
