lookin to buy a shitter as my first car, but would like to know what are the things i should be lookin out for on old escorts like, rust, engine probs, bodywork, suspension? can anybody help me plz.

dunno yet as i havent bought one, but id say bout 1988'ish

 

try and avoid red or white cars as these seemed to literally rot to death much fater than th others.

rear arches, battery tray, front inner wings, cills, as a quick check when you open the bonnet and the VIN plate says FORD UK, walk away.

german built ones VINS will say FORD WERKEANGSHAFT or similal and will start WFOXX.......

sounds about right to me. additional to that i was told to check the rear chassis legs as they commonly rot!
