dont put high ( even £10) starting bids as less people look, well i have found that myself and people dont really bid on thing with high start price, but it depends on what it is.

Yep agree with most of the above start realistic so if its a cheepie keep costs down by listing for .99p if higher start with a medium price so people will bid not just look make them think they are getting a bargain.
list things in the description do not bulk writing together
#use a reserve many a time I could not get home to end an item
most people bid at the last minute so leave it on and don't give up.
use 10 days for less popular items and use 3 days for those easy selling ones if the 3 day ones are not selling 12 hours before with no bids extend the time its free

I Agree with all of the above HONESTY is the Key or you will come un-stuck real quick, when you are listing an item look at it as if you where buying it then you will see all the faults and disclose them , and always put a photo on the gallery

when ad vertising put as many similar names in you TITLE as you can. example im selling my rs 2000 on ebay so ive put: Ford Escort RS 2000 ( RS2000 not turbo gti gte)

so when some one searchs for a gti or a turbo or a gte mine will come up in that listing not just RS 2000. just gets a few more people looking mate....

Try to anticipate who your buyer is, and try to schedule your online auction so it will close when they would likely be online. ie auction items that appeal to retirement age people or stay-at-home mums do best ending mid-morning, and on a similar theme Friday and Saturday nights are not the best time to end youth oriented online auctions etc

10 day auction spanning 2 weekends is a safe bet to start off with.

When developing your description, try to anticipate all of the questions prospective bidders may ask and address them as briefly as possible. This saves monotenous stupid pricks sending you silly emails day and night

Publish your postage and packaging/handling costs sensibly up front and clearly state your payment acceptance policy. Cheque, PO, BACS, Online methods etc etc.

Scan the other adds to get a fair knowledge of the prices stuff will sell for (unless your names Ryan), expect to be shocked in both directions at times (low and high end of sales)

In your description take account for both the clever and the not so.... selling something like a 3 bar map sensor.... in the main description write it twice, once somewhere as 3 bar and once as 3bar. This is used in the search engine to find your item and you will get more hits.

Learn some of the HTML codings to liven up or accentuate your listings

The title is limited to 45 characters. Don't waste precious space with useless descriptions like "Awesome" or "Wow". Nobody searches for an "awesome" rocker box cover.

Once sold your e-mail to the winning bidder should be sent as soon as possible after auction closes and include:

Final Price
Shipping Costs
Payment Options
Time frame in which you expect payment
Mailing Address for Payment
A hyperlink to your feedback page (to encourage +ive feedback).

Keep in touch with the buyer, let them know when payment arrives, when the item has been posted and an expected delivery date, this works wonders for your feedback profile too

Enjoy it as its sometimes frustrating, fun. silly. stupid, annoying, time consuming, but mainly profitable

Not that I have ever sold anything mind........

My selling advice, 10 day auctions starting on Thursday and ending Sunday afternoon or evening are a good all-round bet and good value in terms of listing fees. Lots of bored people on Sunday sitting on their comps. Note that almost ALL eBay free listing days are on Thursdays, this is for a reason!

Reserves now cost a lot more on eBay than they used to so I tend to avoid them. For items that sell very easily and reliably, "currency" items, like PC RAM, I start the items at £0.01 and let things develop. For items of high value or items that aren't easy "currency" items, I start the items at the lowest I would accept for them.

Remember also, some listing upgrades are bad value, depending on the value of the item. Watch those listing fees.
