Cosworth 2wd Complete Engine
Taken from my saff as I've brought another engine.
Its got a slight knocking/tapping noise on idle and over-run, which could be little ends but not sure? advise strip and rebuild either way.
Its a 205 block with a 4x4 head.
The engine ran o.k with no smoke just the noise.
Sensible offers please, as I may break it.

I'm not really sure what this engine would be worth so I'd prefer offers tbh.

I could have put up a thread saying -
'How much do you think this engine is worth?' which I see all the time but they are even more annoying!
it states in the rules somewhere that for sale threads must include a price
i only know this cause i had offers on something once and some smart arese pointed it out to me,
so its my turn to be the smart arse lol

£900 (am I allowed to put 'or nearest offer'?)
Are you needing to sell the motor asap or not cause I'm from S.A and am seeking a cossie motor and our exc rate is hectic so I can only get money in a month or so, if you can keep the motor I will take it from you. Thanks mate
Pete,
them prices are for good items, how 'good' will they be on his engine, head could be very low, crank could be fooked etc..
have to have it stripped down to find out if they are any good, so anyone buying it would be taking a chance imo.
may be better breaking it up and selling the bits separate after inspecting them and then pricing them accordingly.

when selling a suspect engine its alwast best to strip it and sell it so it can be inspected or break it up for parts.either way the stupid offers of £400 and £500 the crank and rods alone will make that
Iam not disputing that, but when someone comes on here and says its not worth £900 it annoys me,that's the problem with this site some people have no idea

so how much is it worth in its current state[unknown]
if some offers £500 blind they might only be getting a good head and thats a lot for head.
and the risk would be with they buyer its a gamble you take.and a £500 at that.
"I got sold a fucked engine beware of this seller"
then in the next breath, when someone asks what an engine is worth
"well i bought one for £500"
double edged sword isnt it,do what you like matters not to me,if the seller wants what its truely worth
take it apart as who ever buys it is going to anyway,so you cant really loose only gain
head 500 crank 400 only if in good condition ??????? not needing grind on crank.....head skimmed to death????? other wise alot cheaper? if he states knocking would need to be cheap??not looking for an argument just thinking out a loud? traders must think the same when buying such an engine or a private seller who has a clue ?

the head striped again will make good money
cam £100 pair
inlet valves at £5 each and thats giving them away £40
exh valves at £10 each another £80
thats £220 for a scrap skimmed to death head
but what do i know Ive only been breaking them for 20 years

i assume the engine is out the car already? - if it is, it will take no time at all to whip the head off, drop the sump and pull out the crank and rods - should take no more than 1hr 1/2
get the relevant bits sized and checked - that way you'll get rid of all the jokers offering 500 quid.
Matt
any offer for £500 is a joke, and you know it - find me another cosworth engine for sale publicly for £500
theres 1 offer on the table. its a take it or leave it scenario depending on how much the seller needs the money.whats the point in arguing over what it might be worth unless your offering ?

Thats exactly how I was looking at it, but what would I know i've only got 70 odd posts so I don't really know anything about anything.
This is why I put 'offers' instead of a price to begin with. as I knew I would get shot down for putting a price but ended up getting shot down for putting offers

I will break it though as I'm curious to see what the noise was. I think it is a little end as its not a deep enough to be big ends but we'll see.
Cheers Mate,
