Default Smokey turbo, info needed.

Turbo on my rst has started to smoke. It holds good boost and boosts properly but is obviously not right! there is a tiny amount of up and down play but none in and out. I've been told it may just be an oil seal inside the turbo causing my smoke, is it worth taking it to be fixed or just bin it and buy another?

Still having problems bud? whip it off and take it to turbo active for a check if i was you, think they built the unit thats on your car in the first place.

Been down wennys today to do valve stem seals but it still smokes and he said turbo is the next thing to do. Been on the phone to turbo active but they only seem interested in doing a full rebuuild, if that's gonna cost around £200 I'd sooner just bin it and buy another.
if it's only a seal that'll only cost £50 - £80 I'd have it done if ya know what I mean

I wouldnt bin it mate, is it the same one brucey got built for the car? iirc it was a good spec turbo 360 bearing etc it probably is just the oil seal gone in it it had been sat for a long time

Its normally around £200 for a rebuild, its sometimes difficult to balance a turbo on old bearings.
