Default cosworth engine

hi. my mate has chance of a cosworth engine. he said its the one with the red cam cover on it. also has loom gearbox ecu and pretty much everything needed to get it running. does anyone have any idea how much he should be payin. its standard as far as i know cheers

id guess at a couple of grand for everything? any history on the engine, proof of mileage or rebuild etc?

I'm sure the red tops were the early engines found in the 3dr or saph cosworths, you would want to hear it running as for all you know you could be buying a pile of scrap.

I am guessing that because you are posting in the Escort forum, this might be purchased for one of these cars? If so, unless it has been fitted with a 200 block, it won't be suitable. The 4x4 cars require the extra rigidity achieved with the 200 block, so to fit a 205 blocked engine in one of these cars is likely to result in the block cracking under the twisting stresses that the 4x4 transmission will put on the engine.
