Default Should be interesting...

.... as some of you may know my gearbox died the other day leaving me with only 1st and 2nd

After a close look at my finances I've had to discontinue my hunt for a new S2 LSD box and slap a very sloppy 250'000'000'000'000 mile old XR3i box in that i had lying around the garage

The self distruct countdown begins..... LOL!

Well so far i've noticed the massive amount of wheelspin i get compared to a LSD box, just putting my boot down in 3rd and the wheels let go as soon as I start to spool up, never did that before (well, not in the dry)!

But at least i have all 6 gears and not just 1st and 2nd!

My 1900CVH Turbo that was running 240/240 had a 3i box in it for 40k miles until it decided to kill 5th gear.

Revs kill these boxes too so keep them sensible (I very rarely hit over 6k) and it'll last long enough.

Great fun lighting up coming out of tight bends..........or even just accelerating normally in the wet! ha ha

It's really interesting hearing everybodies experiences, some people say a S2 box wont last 5 mins with any sort of real bhp/torque, and then you come on with your 3i box that has done 40k!! Crazy!

Must just be down to how we all drive I guess...

Ive heard quite a few stories of the 3i box lasting longer, probably under less stress as it just lights up the one wheel as opposed to try and get them both going......

Yep! Even got the run on video!! Did a 13.8 @ 106!

Cars approx 240 / 250 bhp and wieghs just over 900kg and runs 16's with 195/50 Toyo 888's. Think the 60ft time was about 2.5 seconds if I remember.

Well yeah something like that.... i'm self employed and work has dropped off in recent months (as it has for most people) so my wages are down, hopefully things will pick back up again in the next 6 months and i'll have decent coin floating around again!
Until then i've got enough money for a tune up with my new turbo fitted but other than that the car is on hold

i had a base spec 5 speed box that had done what had to be close to 175k, and that lasted ages and only died, when as said before, i tested it to destruction at high revs in 5th

and even with 5th gear blown, i drove around with 4 gears and lots of crunching noises for 2 weeks due to pure lazyness, and still the box refused to die

I bet that box will actually run for ages.......

I expect the diff will be the first thing to let go if anything though, the gears in the diff are prone to break.
