hi, iv just bought an escort combi with a 1.8 ZVH but the speedo is very out. 20mph on the clock is about 30, 30 on the clock is about 40 and thats all i have worked out so far. is there a quick fix? im assuming that there is a sensor on the flywheel that wont match the dials but that is a pure guess!? also the rev limiter reads half what it should do. the old owner mentioned maybe fitting dials from an EFi instead of the MFi dials that are in there now??

also, any common problems associated with a 1.8 ZVH? just so i know what to be looking out for.

It uses a cable.....

 

ZVH,CVH wont make a difference becouse it takes the speed from the gear box, Try a new cable.

 

thanks for the replies but if it takes the readings from the 'box, that will be why it doesnt match up surely? its got a 1.8 zetec box which is (i guess) geared higher so could that be why its readings slow?

 

mk3 or 4 escort? you can not fit a zetec box in a mk4 iirc so you will have the same box as normal and same cable and same speedo.

 

thanks for the reply again. as you may well tell, i am still learing! its a mk 4 combi so it musy have the standard 1.6 box in it. (i just thought it wouldnt match the zetec bottom end - obviously i am wrong. i will try the nu cable.

any ideas on the 'half-speed' rev counter though?
