Default Series one Restoration C71 SGW

Hi all, i am reasonably new to the site but have had a few RS's over the years, including a couple of series 2 RS Turbo's and a nice Mallard Green RS1800. Around 3 years ago my series one came into my care after my couson had owned since it was 18 months old.It had been sat for a long time last being taxed in 1996! It was in a very sorry state when i aquired it, so the only way to go naturally was a bare shell nut and bolt restoration,

with an end result of cossie management, greens, T34 steel rods, forged pistons, rear Roll Center cage, 17" Rondells (if i can find a set!), coilovers and 330mm bell and rota set up on front, cos rear brakes and around 240BHP,

How she looked when i first got her, oh and some arse had the bodykit away before she got to me.

Luckily all of the interior was in very good condition and with an un-cracked dash, so all of that was removed and safely stored in my loft. With it down to pretty much a shell the extent of the rot could be clearly seen and it really wasn't looking good if ever i was going to get second thoughts it would be now.

Now it was time to start chopping all of that grot out, luckily i managed to get hold of, genuine ford bits which include;

Rear panel
Front panel
both front wings
Front cross member

Battery tray and fuse box panel

With all four floor pans sorted and the bulkhead parts done it was time to remove the wings and show the inner wings some love

With all the welding sorted and 2 very discrete plates on both rear chassis rails (not pictured) it was starting to take shape.

Battery tray and fuse box panel filled

All of the underneith of the car and archs were then taken right back to bare metal, Zinc primed seam sealed and then painted Diamond White. I am having a Roll Center half cage in the back also painted Diamond White so the relivant mounting plates were welded on at this stage to. Every component from the underneith was sent off to be powder coated and a full set of poly bushes orderd.

Before the underneith was painted the top was prepped and primed

Now for the exciting part, the outside painted

Engine bay

Everything has come back from being powdercoated, all suspension put back together with polybushes and new set of AVO Coilovers

Green powdercoated Brake lines and gold powdercoated fuel lines

New Tank

Loom Starting to go back in,
please excuse the manky strut tops !

Under Scuttle Panel

Wiper motor and blower in

Rollcenter Cage ready for a coat in Diamond White

More pics of underside

Doors Ready for Primer and Paint

Front End going back together

Heater Box and Servo back in

Found a set!

Bought this to donate silly bits and piece's like clips etc that I did'nt even think about

What do you reckon folks?

Brilliant, how long has it taken you to get from start of the restoration to current position?

All in all probably about 3.5 years, its just having the time and money to keep up with it, as I want it done properly not quickly with a decent spec, and with a young family it can be hard. The engine is being done at the moment. I am aiming to have it completed by Feb 09

Coilovers set to the height I want on the front

New Bronze tinted screen

Rear Cosworth discs on

Cage

Put to bed

Thankyou mate.

I take it you mean the Genuine Ford parts? if so

Wings Ł120 pair
Rear panel Ł90
Front panel Ł115
Crossmember Ł80
Scuttle panel Ł150 (yes I know its expensive)

I can still get the genuine parts, from a friend with a container full of gen mk3+4 Escort bits.

hiya m8,looks really tasty after all that work in,love the look of the s1s,dont want to be picky though but i think the side lights look better clear, and you should of got powerflex bushes instead of the deflex ones,if you look closely you can see some of em dont fit very well.
other than that spot on
and a m8 with a container full of original ford parts is a handy person to know
keep it up

Ha- your not the first to say that about the indicators, I like things to look original but with lots of power and a nice set of wheels etc...

All of my Deflex bushes fit properly as I had steel inserts and outers made up for them.

Cheers for the comments
