Default Rebuild Recommendations..

Hello,
I'm thinking about getting my Escort Cosworth fixed & back on the road sometime early next year. Can anyone recommend anywhere good to take it to be looked at and have the work done near Halifax, West Yorkshire,i dont mind sending it off to be done as it will be going on a trailer anyway.I think it just needs a new headgasket & possibly the turbo reconditioning ,i dont fancy my local garage doing it as they dont have a clue, the problems only really started after they'd touched in the first place,it still runs but doesn't go above 25 mph in any gear!! The radiator started leaking last year & i replaced it with a RS500 style aluminium model but didnt do it much good, its a 1996 N-reg small turbo with approx 47,000 miles, also how much is it going to cost to have the above done? I was thinking around £2000 but thats just a rough guess,
Thanks,

I've now registered to that site - looks good.

I've also sent an email off now to NMS to try get it in for around the middle of Feb, its looking like i'll have around £6k to spend hopefully it won't need a complete rebuild as the mileage is quite low, i haven't decided though yet what i actually want to do with engine, what could i get for that sort of money ? What would you do ?

6k should get you a fully built 450bhp with ease

BUT there are a number of factors to consider aswell ie how good your engine is to start low miles can be worse than a high mile lump

thanks mate,450BHP would be good, Is that 6K including a rebuild or 6K without ? I'm hoping to get a few areas of the bodywork tidied up aswell front arches have slight rust & theres an area below the rear number plate started bubbling can't see that costing too much to sort though,

Above 350 BHP increase the chances of breaking the transmission, the box is meant to be the weak link above that & the clutch would also need doing. Your £6K will go quite quick if you need an uprated box & clutch.

No point having a lot of power & not being able to use it because the gearbox breaks everytime you give it some beans.

If it was my money I'd go to MAD in Maidenhead or MSD in Blackpool, Stu has a good rep & he's got some good plans for the Small Turbo Escort. He's working on a 350BHP conversion for the ST Escort & I'm sure I read that Wils car is up & running again so they can finish the development work (Hopefully).
