my car has a sensor in the rear diff that converts the signal to the odometer/mph

The mileage and speed are measured off the drive-train.
Either gearbox, or diff, whether FWD or RWD.
So yes drifting will show your mileage as higher than the car has actually travelled.

I'd be more worried about the 10% speedo (car dependent) over-read than the odd wheelspin....

10%? wow, thats 10k on every genuine 100k where did the 10% come from?

also changing wheels could mess this up too, never even thought of that

Just use the Sat Nav as a speedo.

Drift as in on track or on "road".
If it's on track disconnect the speedo whilst drifting, if it's on "road", you won't be doing enough to seriously affect the true reading.

ahh theres a thought! could take it out and use satnav for speedo

not too much on track to be honest, normaly on roads, massive open spaces so probably nothing to worry about!

From checking older cable driven speedo cars, pretty much bang on 10% over at all speeds on all I've checked.
Diff/abs driven are 2 or 3mph over at most speeds from what I've seen.

modern cars read all 4 wheel speeds so in theory know the speed quite accurately regardless of any 'drifting' - but that's only as good as the calculation that's in the CAN controller for the rolling circumference of the tyres.

If you look on some std speedos it will say revs/mile, this is revolutions of the wheel per mile, but that assume everything gearing wise is std and of course not spinning/slipping.
