Talking FRS Custom MAP Vs Bluefin/Dreamscience

IMO It appears that a custom remap on and ecu with a modified engine is far more advantagous than using Bluefin/Dreamscience as they are designed for a standard engine?!

Can anyone who has had a custom remap recommend anyone?! Cheers Peeps!!

Custom mapping is only worth doing on an FRS which has had lots of mods fitted or if you do not plan on adding more mods down the line as after every new performance mods you will have to pay to have a new map created meaning more ŁŁŁŁ

AFAIK Bluefin & Dreamscience also work fine with modded engines as well as standard - in the old days i used to run a bluefin on my car up to 300bhp without any issues

Cheers dude, That makes a lot of sense!

What mods did you have on your frs was 300bhp?! Currently ours has a tubular manifold, de-cat, adn gen 2 K&n, I'm looking at upgrading the intercooler and getting stainless steel system before mapping, do you think bluefin/dreamscience would run ok with those sort of mods?!

Cheers!

The usual bolt on mods like most have like full turbo back (decat) exhaust, induction kit, manifold, bluefin, uprated chargecooler, better plugs, leads, etc, etc, etc to get around 300

The bluefin i used back then was just the basic Bluefin map designed for FRS (standard/modded) & it ran fine

For the mods you have there are many people on the RSOC running similar mods with Bluefin/Dreamscience so shouldnt have any worries there

You may also want to consider replacing the actuator so the car holds boost better as well as putting bluefin/dreamscience on the car

Bluefin also supply maps designed to run on cars whereby people have fitted a hybrid gt25 turbo or gt28 turbos where things like fuelling, ignition are adjusted over standard

AFAIK Dreamscience does similar with its higher spec handsets in the form of maps like "Race" or "Race+" & quite a few people use them on cars ranging from standard to modded as well

Of course Bluefin (Superchips) & some Dreamscience dealers can also offer "live map" services tailored to mods on your car if you desired that

Other than that the other usual chips on the market for the FRS are the Dastek Unichip & Collins Powerchip options although these are more ideal if you want to have a custom map setup to the mods already on the car

The next stage on from there is standalone ecu with proper live map but that is basically 380+bhp territory whereby you need to be able to have access to pretty much 100% of the cars engine/ecu setup - thats what i'm on now but obviously only due to the cars power/mods/etc

If you get a chance have a look/ask on the FRS section of the RSOC forum as there are quite a few threads on there with the usual good & bad points of most of the ecu options available & also a few threads relevant to replacing the actuator as well

Re the Collins chip i believe some were basic pre-programmed items with a generic map in the early days of FRS tuning but i believe that most sold since have been specifically on the basis of being mapped specifically to the car like the unichip is

I'd imagine if you were looking at one, even used, may be worth contacting Collins direct with some info on the chip & they might be able to advise on it

The only problem with "used" chips plugging onto the ecu like that though is you dont know 100% how its been setup for things like fuelling when in previous owners hands so you'd probably end up wanting it setup/adjusted specifically to your car as a precaution anyway

Yes it is mate... I take it your having a pop with the Collins chip? Have you contacted Collins? Just make sure, but with the MSD Chip you have to make a modification to the ECu before the chip will work. It 'may' also damage the ecu if it's not fitted properly.

Yes I got in contact with collins....they said "Most Focus RS's have an ECU with the code 6MYD. The chip should be fine but you may come across the problem that Ford reprogrammed the majority of the ECU's, if for some reason it hasn't been reprogrammed, it may not work."

I'm assuming thats the AE/AF map possibly??

Thanks for your advice mate! I'll have to take great care in fitting it!!
