Default Car tax info,anyone shed any light?

I have looked at a e39 M5 which was built in 1999 and on a v reg but registered in this country in march 16th 2001. The wording on the dvla website suggests that cars registered after 01 march 2001 are subject to the stupidly high tax increases but it seems unfair if the car was built in 1999
Anyone know if this is the case?

regards mark

It doesn't matter when it is first registered, if it doesn't have a Co2 emissions figure on the v.5 it can't be taxed at the 2001 rates.

The first registered doesn't apply to new imports from the U.S eg. 2008 Mustang is only £185, so I can't see it applying to the M.5 unless it has a CO2 figure.

From DVLA;
The rates shown only apply to cars that have been type approved in category M1 and registered on the basis of CO2 emissions measured in grams per kilometre (g/km) driven. These details are shown on the Registration Certificate.

Type the reg no. in here, it will tell you if it holds details;

Car was built in '99 so its not affected even if it was registered in the uk a few years later

Besides apparantly the government have done a temporary u-turn (for a year anyway) on the tax hike on 2001 to 2006 registered cars on tax anyway so even if the car was 2001 it wouldnt be affected anyway
