Default TV people...

you know the fibre optic cable you run from tv etc to a dolby 5.1 amp unit...

can you get a tee for these, so you can connect more than one cable into the unit? my 5.1 system has 1 input for fibre optic, and i have 2 things i need to plug into it. obviously i wont run them at the same time....

Not really no..... You would ideally need a switching unit to combat cross-interferance and noise issues.... I *think* it can also cause ohm-related issues aswell, but I'd leave that up to a proper audio buff (like Doug Stirling or BigLee) to comfirm.....

whats the other unit you need to plug in to the amp? perhaps you could route it through the tv? thats how my ps3 is connected to the amp. hdmi to tv then tv by optic to amp. The amp actually has 3 digital inputs but i dont need them all. I use the digital coax to connect the dvd though.

nope not a T but a type of optical hub, simalar to how a usb hub works but on an optical level obviously. they are not cheap tho. do you not have a coaxial digital o/p on the system you can use?

the thing is with optical signals is that you really cant intrupt them at all or you will get some strange results.
do you have any other i/p you can use from your ps3 ie hdmi or have you got an lcd with optical o/p i run my ps3 into the tv via hdmi and then run my tv into my audio system with the optical o/p due to only having one optical i/p to my system.

mm, problem being my tv is wall mounted and i didnt bury an optical cable in the wall as i only ever intended it to be a monitor not a part of the system.

is there a unit that can control everything...has a 5.1 amp built in, and all equipment can plug into? like a main unit.

my 5.1 amp is cack anyway, has a built in sub which sucks, i want an amp that is standalone, so i can run my big sub off it.

what you need as a dedecated 5.1 processor preamp, so you can then use power amps to run your speakers and subs
ive been looking at a few to upgrade my system and i found one with 4 optical inputs and 4 digital 96kz coaxial inputs fully remote made by arcam. secondhand it was Ł400 by it now from shitbay, but im thinking about it
i would need 5 monobloc power amps or 2 std 2ch amps to do it properly. not sure how my xta system processors would deal with it tho.. may need to use some sort of aes card and interface. god knows..
anyhow. good luck
