I know about them melting but that’s only due to mapping really so no bother there.
Rapid point to point (useable pace on UK roads these days)
Looks the part
As new as you can get before the stupid tax laws
And its has a ROOF VENT
wouldn’t have even bothered looking before but at this price its a bargain I think even with depreciation factored in (you would use it more than the RS IMHO anyway)
seriously.....what am i missing here? (other than its not an RS!)

how about this one then for Ł500 more...........
rebuilt etc

i have had 2 impreza's, and he same number of rs's.
a few people on here always go on about the melting/knocking of bottom ends, but mapped properly they will be as reliable as any cossie.
the problem is some people who import the japanese cars think that they will run perfectly on uk fuel, which is wrong, mapped properly for uk fuel the car will be fine,
my last impreza was a 1998 sti 4 import and mapped for uk fuel and achieved approx 330bhp on optimax!
overal the cars themselves are nimble, handle well when aligned properly (4 wheel to either prodrive settings or grd if down south) and if maintained will last a long time!
tuning wise, they are getting cheaper to modify, looking in the right places will see you up to 300-330 for about Ł800. thats if ur not fussed about buying second hand parts!
the only down side is that the car is beginning to get into the hands of young drivers and the insurance is becoming silly in some areas

I was looking at that exact same advert last week, along with the PJ Daveys white Type R.
Still debating whether to keep the XR2 or go for another scoob

Only difference between the scooby and cossie is the scooby is as common as muck and the cossie was a real head turner, maybe abit of power difference and sideways action but you could leave the scooby parked somewhere and not worry as much
andy feel free to drive my car when ever you want to see what there about
i use mine every day, gets a pasting aswell and,, well i aint gonna tempt fate but i still using it !
ive held mine at 150ish for a good while too and its rare to see me below 130 on motorways
think that the cash for that car is a little too much for the car but im a tight bastard
i LOVE my car, just bought a full powerflex bush kit, whiteline roll bars and alk aswell as asjustable rose jointed drop links,, just deciding on suspension then its on with the engine ( or a porsche)
also doing my fuel system at the min too

mine is currently having the engine completely rebuilt after the no 3 big end shit itself after 100 miles of very average driving as i was just taking it easy before servicing it and getting remapped.
i wouldnt buy another v4/5/6 unless its been rebuilt beforehand.
good news is mine will be for sale as soon as it comes back-prob next week.with a brand new crank, rod, race bearings, modified oil pump, oil cooler, head gaskets etc-
its a white v4 with only 54000 miles,coilovers and very nice.will be 6kish.
they are awesome cars!

Get it remapped run it on V-Power and it wont melt unless somethings fucked imo!
In standard form they go quite well, handle well, look good, easy (and nice) to drive... i'd ignore all the comments on them being common as fuck... you dont see many 2dr Impreza's on the roads imo!
My serious bit of advise is... drive one and see... i cant see you not liking it tbh!

Ive had 2 WRX impreza wagons, both were standard and both werent any trouble,
Im thinking of outing my 3 door early next year and getting either a P1 or a V4 STi

I just cant seem to keep a car longer than 6 months anymore?

Get it bought and let's start a Berkshire Passion Classic Scooby Meet????
My one [fairly standard UK spec too], I only bought it because it was cheap, was going to sell it straight on but it takes such a hammering, gets used as a hack car and has so far only complained the once when the clutch shit itself... I've even stuck my number plate on it since the photo...I prefer the estate for my purposes as I can stuff my bike in and the dogs can get in it and still breathe
:

Nick, if you want to spend a bit more, I've got a 54 plate in black [WRX salloon, not STi] coming in probably the end of the week? [this is a for sale ad]

My mate had a wrx sti for a week.....very clean, imaculate actually!, week later bottom end went
had a new engine put in and just sold it to some randomer who lives at the end of my road

I've had mine for a year, and done 13k miles in it and i've not had any trouble with it. It's thrashed and will take it all day long(touches wood
The people that tell you stories of chocolate engines etc don't have a clue, and never look after them properly.
If you have attention to detail as far as running and maintaining your cars is concerned, then you will be fine.
Everyone has been spot on so far - if it's a fresh import then I'd book it in to get mapped ASAP.
That 2nd one you're looking at that's been rebuilt is a 4dr.
My V4 STi Type R has been spot on - and it's had a new engine put in it 14k ago so it'll be good for a long time yet.
If you're interested the ad is in the for sale section.
Good luck if you do decide to go for one - probably the best "bang for your buck" at the moment.

Iv'e had 3 WRX JDM Wagons-1 x P1 (type r is better) First V7 STI Wagon with TSL 333 upgrade (awsome piece of kit) in the UK, it was a personal import. UK Wagon with a US spec 2.5 engine td06 and FMIC 396 BHP and very reliable and quick. 2 X TYPE R V4 and V5, very quick point to point, but can be a real handful with the centre diff control not guaged properly. If your going the scooby route and you like modding, get an STI, forget a WRX there not in the same league, plus the STI is more tuneable for the same money. Classics are great but do a sensible mod and fit an oil cooler, to help no3 piston out. Get yourself on scoobynet the majority of people on there are a real help. I loved all my scoobs even with there tendency to try and pull the nose out wide in a tight bend. Fantastic on the edge, but iv'e been that route and find my Escort Cossy more special in every way. They are extremley reliable if you buy wise. 555 are a mindfield of specs and to be honest a bit of a white elephant. You really have to want a stripped out type ra 555, they are very demanding and no better or as good as a Type R. For the money i'd go a Type R V5 but make sure it has coprehensive history and hopefully a rebuilt engine, preffer a closed deck block from a V2 STI, with a V8 crank
Gear boxes are very strong as are diffs and shafts. Subaru 4 pot calipers are pants, so that is a MUST DO upgrade, but theres always lots for sale on SCNET. White line ARB's, drop links etc... will sort out the tugging nose, to a point, but wont cure it. I cant think of any more for now, but just get yourself on SCNET.

besides, i like the classic shape, not the newer ones
John Felstead's STI V5 RA you posted the link to is almost the perfect fast road spec. I was at the rolling road day (that's actually my picture) and it was what I'd call the perfect impreza.
I'd deffinately buy it if I had the spare money as it's a really nice spec with the closed deck block and associated engine parts plus great suspension setup.
Although it's a 4 door being an STI RA it still has the DCCD like the type R, also has a decent low ratio box with a longer 5th gear than the earlier RA's.
Superb car!

2 of my good mates both had type-R scoobys, both had front mounts, aftermarket management, tubular manifolds, filter, and exhaust, lower strut braces, rear diff strengtrhener bar, and one on tein coilies and the other on cusco's
and must say, IMMENSE cars, lots on understeer on track, but with the centre diff set all the way to the rear it soon corrected itself again, sure you can get kits for the front end now that reduce the understeer too. one was fully forged and it got absolute hell on and off track, never had any both with it whatsoever.
if you get one though, bear in mind the bonnets especailly on the type R ones, LOVE to flip up and destroy windscreens. as gash as bonnet pins can be its a worthwhile investment. immense cars though IMO handle 2nd to none, and go like the clappers, such a quick point to point car. but at the same time it would still show 160 on the clock at the best of times lol
brillaint cars imo i love them
