Iv'e had 3 WRX JDM Wagons-1 x P1 (type r is better) First V7 STI Wagon with TSL 333 upgrade (awsome piece of kit) in the UK, it was a personal import. UK Wagon with a US spec 2.5 engine td06 and FMIC 396 BHP and very reliable and quick. 2 X TYPE R V4 and V5, very quick point to point, but can be a real handful with the centre diff control not guaged properly. If your going the scooby route and you like modding, get an STI, forget a WRX there not in the same league, plus the STI is more tuneable for the same money. Classics are great but do a sensible mod and fit an oil cooler, to help no3 piston out. Get yourself on scoobynet the majority of people on there are a real help. I loved all my scoobs even with there tendency to try and pull the nose out wide in a tight bend. Fantastic on the edge, but iv'e been that route and find my Escort Cossy more special in every way. They are extremley reliable if you buy wise. 555 are a mindfield of specs and to be honest a bit of a white elephant. You really have to want a stripped out type ra 555, they are very demanding and no better or as good as a Type R. For the money i'd go a Type R V5 but make sure it has coprehensive history and hopefully a rebuilt engine, preffer a closed deck block from a V2 STI, with a V8 crank

Gear boxes are very strong as are diffs and shafts. Subaru 4 pot calipers are pants, so that is a MUST DO upgrade, but theres always lots for sale on SCNET. White line ARB's, drop links etc... will sort out the tugging nose, to a point, but wont cure it. I cant think of any more for now, but just get yourself on SCNET.
