im in the fortunate position to be able to afford a new car, looking at a few, lexus soarers etc...but have found a few early evos in my price range, now i love the look of the early ones, but are they any good?i know the engine is slightly different, but can you do about 300bhp reliably on them?and what are they like for insurance and running costs etc?im looking on mlr now but want peoples opinions on here cos i know people on here!cheers.

.
take it you dont now much about the 4g63t evo engine, the only evo,s that suffer crankwalk or evo,s from 1 to 4.. crankwalk was due to the main bearing mitsubishi re designed them from the 5 upward, you cant do anything about it if you have evo 1 to 3 , but if you have a evo 4 you can put a 5 block in and take advantige of the new bearings

this is my 3 block i built up after crankwalk the middle bearing is the problem i put full race bearings in to help...

the problem bearing, evo 3 also suffer ring land failure, so i put evo 9 pistons in

mate of mine had a 2 a couple of years back,
was around 300 mark,
went well for the power, realy felt like it could move
only thing that ever went on it was the bottom pulley collapsed and snapped the timing belt
bit of bad luck
but i rebuild the head for him then no probs again
sold it shortly afterward
still see it at knockhill as the guy that bought it used it as track car
i'd have 1 in a minute as they go for buttons these days and are good fun
