Escort Cosworth group n ????
HELP PLEASE!!!
Been looking at couple of Group N Escort Cosworth rally cars / shells with the intention to use as a track car.
The problem is the cars I have looked at are not showing Ford RS ESCORT COSWORTH on the V5 log book - is this normal?
They show something like Escort CL with Cosworth showing on the engine number section.
Both are deffinatly Cosworth shells with the extra length.
Could anyone shed any light on this for me & anything else to be aware of.
Cheers
Pete

99% of rally / track cars are built from shells that had no ID, so when built people just buy a std car and use that ID , Technicaly this is ringing , but as its a rally / track car nobody realy bothers ,
wouldnt bother me one bit
wouldnt bother me one bit
What about the price?
How much was a bare shell with a proffesionally installed roll cage when new?
Should I value it as a genuine cosworth or as a replica?
Just want to make sure i'm not paying to much.
Cheers

it would bother me if the car isn't registered correctly, i'm fussy about that sort of thing as i have over the years seen stolen cosworth road cars turned into a rally car and you never know.also imo a rally car that was built from a motorsport shell and registered correctly with paperwork from the preparation company showing its pedigree is a far better car usually.
regards price, somthing you may think is great i may see as abused scrap and not want to touch with a barge pole.
another reason there's loads of motorsport bodyshells that has not been mentioned is when a serious rally team builds a car for a season they always have spare prepared shells to build a car into in the event of a accident, when a car gets sold a lot of the time the person buying doesn't buy everything like the spares, shells etc.
