Only real way is to go somewhere that has both and view em. See which you like best to look at. They are both much of a sameness in terms of spec really......

A 50" would be miles to big for my front room though

the sony has a slightly better contrast ratio, and the bravia engine is always top notch, other than that, both are pretty much the same

id go with the sony, and thats comin from someone who has that exact samsung tv, dnt get me wrong its a good tv and in full HD 1080p from a HD source it cud easily keep up with the sony, but on a standard definition source i think the sony's are ever so slightly better

id personally giv it a month n wait for the big january sales, thats what im doing. and keep an eye on currys, they bound to have another big sale. about a month ago they opened a mega store locally, n were floggin them 40" samsungs ur looking at for £274!!!

have a look at the LG range aswel, they make some nice tv's. toshiba have nice specs but terrible picture on standard def, phillips have really nice quality picture on all defnitions, but always cost a bit more, samsung are consistently good, but unless u buy the real up to date series 8 or woteva they up to, they no better than the sonys, and anythin bravia engined is a good performer, especially if its a 1080p model too

also, anythin bigger than a 40 and u really are into the territory of LCD vs plasma, but u wil really wana do ur research into all the options then

seriously, if ur buying that particular samsung 40", i really would wait for the sales, as if currys cud afford to knock em out at £274 a few weeks back, i reckon the price may take another dramatic nose dive in the sales. sales only a few weeks away too

i kno how gutted i was having paid £550 for it a couple months back, to then see it for half price, was a right kick in the dick
