Default early/late saffs advice please as am buyin one

right my series 2 rst recently went up in flames and the insurance company are paying out no questions asked

so i have 2k and im owd in a futher 800 quid. now i no this is NOT enough for a cossie BUT iam saving up aswell.

my friend has a 3dr, one of the last late spec saff's 4x4 and a series 1 rst!

now he is going to sell the saff as it hardly gets used. he wants 4.5 k for it but i helped pull him out of trouble a while back and he says I can have it for 3.8k

it is either silver / moonstone blue cant remember i have only seen the car a few times and cant remember as it was dark!

( PLEASE NOTE I NO NOTHIN ABOUT COSSIES)but ill be picking it up all the way!

HE SAID

it has a colour coded spoiler from the factory
is running a t3 turbo
dark green injectors etc
estimated power is 320 -330 brake( not sure boost he's using)

now i have just found out that there are a couple of engine types.

green and red (difference's please)

and any advice and knowledge will be greatly appreciated

regards
john

T3 turbo usually maxes out at 310 BHP, Red top engine was earlier model of saph 2wd&4x4 and ran on leaded fuel, green top engine was the later spec 4x4 one with a cat and ran on un-leaded

Also the saying goes if you don't have the money to buy a cossie twice over then don't

will have a painted spoiler due to being a late saff!should have a green top engine!i doubt you will be seeing a true 330 from the standard T3 turbo!as said 310 max!will have the later dash in her(more rounded and the later steering wheel!which i personally hate!)early 3 spoke steering wheel alot better imo!will have the dark rainbow type pattern if cloth interior!

Or is there something particular yu need to know?

it has a green top and power was a estimate. steering wheel is nowt that i'm bothered about. easy changed.

just wanted to know what to look out for. he says it has broke 2 front drive shafts.... he said some thing about a sir clip on the shaft and some people leave it off? or could it be a weak engine mount?

Ah well i would look deeper into that!if it the driveshafts not a problem!but that must talke some mega abuse to kill two front driveshafts even at that power on a 4x4!

It is possiable for the engine mount to be worn as well yes!

does it have a grp A headgasket fitted?

Is the car very low as that could possibly be the driveshaft problem

Fit xr4x4 front shafts as they are longer

If its a factory painted rear spoiler lip its one of the last 300 built saphs off the production line

Hi mate that looks a lovely car. Ignore what people say about needing twice the money you spend on a cossie. Im not a rich man,ive had my cossie for nearly 3 years now. Ive had a few faults the same as everyone but they are old cars with old technology. Mine is about 300 bhp running greens and i use mine every day apart from a few times on a weekend when i use my wifes car Im in the tyne n wear rsoc mate. Get yourself on the site and tell them i reckonnened you to join. Ive seen that saff somewhere before. It might even be a member on the tyne n wear rsoc.

It could just be a saff with the kit on. The rouse should also have a rear bumper extention skirt and different front seats. Its should also have 304R on the rear of the car below the rear lights. I reckonise this car from somewhere i might have to have a look through my photos but im positive ive seen it before cause i even reckonise the reg of the car. It is a nice looking car.

See my post above you Glen, that was Bobby's old Rouse, If its in that condition still its MINT and was a show car. ARK1 was his user name on here. IIRC he did a deal with a BMW with someone on here.

It fucking winds me up when someone contradicts what I believe to be sound advice as it was me who posted the statement, I aint a rich man either but over the seven years I've owned my car it stands me in 26k all in all, bottom line cossie are fucking expensive when it comes to repair or modding them, you may have had your car for 3 years and you think the sun shines out of its arse but that don't mean you can tell people to ignore advice from fellow members, typical rsoc comment

am not contadicting u mate but a dont think cossies are expensive if u dont make them expensive , it all depends how u go about it and what and who u know . dont get me wrong if u put ure car in a specialist tuners for evry single thing it gets it will soon rack up a bill . but if your in the trade and know people that can do the same job then basically u just need to take it to the tuners for it final tweeks and rolling road set up etc , if u spend wisely u wont loose money in a cossie and will get back what or close to what u put out on it .

Its just that the geezers post wound me up when I read it. People pass on advice and knowledge and you pick it up as you go. Persnally I would never say to someone ignore what has been said to you by someone else. As I posted earlier typical rsoc comment and attitude

I know you are not mate as I was referring to someone else, I understand what you mean about putting your car into a tuner and racking up bills as its the labour that kills it, I have started doing little bits recently to save a few pennies but engine rebuilds, lying under cars and struggling to changes boxes etc etc it not something that I like to be doing nowadays, I was doing all that at 18

but what makes the cossie engine so much different from my 200sx - my gtiR - or my 3zx tt....?

like i said before all cars are money pits and i bet over half the owners on here dont have the money ready and waiting just to rebuild it straight away!

most people buy a seconed car and save up.

i have lot's of friends that are more then capeable of rebuilding an engine for me. one has rebuilt a skyline GTR wich made 700+ HORSE POWER!

he was only going to charge me 800 quid for labour for rebuildin a 300zx tt

Agree with what a lot of people have said about cossie ownership can be very expensive but a lot of it is luck of the draw. I drive mine hard occassionally but don't abuse it and it's cost me peanuts to run in the two years i've owned it - it's only needed a new water pump and a split steering rack gaitor replacing. Obviously there are oil/filter changes and it's needed new front discs and pads but you get these costs with any car. If you're lucky and you don't abuse it then it MAY not be that expensive.

The best piece of advice I was given when I bought mine was pay to get it set up professionally. For the sake of Ł150 quid it is the well worth it. Don't fork out four grand and blow up a good car because you were too tight to pay to get it set up.

Good luck.

could not agree more and i also sugested paying for a rollin road session to check fuel etc. 50 quid to see if it has been runnin lean etc is alot better then a rebuild!

i have been tosin between mybee getin another 200sx lik the one in my sig as i know what im doin with them at could have about 380 brake to the rears for about 1500 quid! but i think i would regret it as i would hit the drift track again and run it in to the ground untill it was a driftcar.

truth is i no fuck all about fords.

i still dont know why every body runs stupid amounts of bosst like 2 bar plus.

with all my jap cars i have been gettin 300 up to 380 brake at 1 - 1.2 bar but i guess thats just the way there are tuned.

by the way im lovin the car in your sig is that a mk 2? very nice
