Never fitted roof aerials from the factory. Even with the upgraded stereo, with graphic and better rear speakers, the Aerial was always in the heated rear window element.

Of course people fitted the "golf16v" type beesting aerial and claimed they were factory but they weren't.

Ah, sorry mate never heard that one before!

Never seen a roof mounted antenna either, could well be part of the 'bee sting aerial' fad a few years back!

as stated bee sting ariels are not std, why do people drill holes in s2 ersts to fit a ariel whens its already has one built into the rear screen, as if the roof dosent have enough trouble fending off rust around the sunroof area

The ariel in a s2 was the rear heater wire IIRC, I had a beesting one on mine it was fashionable at one time, it was a VW trend..... The beesting meant you could actually get a radio signal...

if the rear screen ariel ever packed up, u can just try another unit from a scrap car or failling that fit one from a motorfactors which u stick to the windscreen, i had one of these but stuffed it behind the dash and it worked fine

Now then Nic how are you doing. I always thought the ariel was in the rear window too. It must just be one of those things where someone has followed the vw trend. I used to have a mk4 escort 4 door with a bee sting ariel on the osr of the roof. It wasnt in the middle it was to the side.
