Approximately two years ago, they lost the contract to supply Tesco, who are now the second largest purchaser of media entertainment, and it's hit their profits massively.
That, coupled with a lack of forethought and no market definition means that it was only a matter of time.

As Rich said they had no Market defination, i mean what would you go to Woolworths for? Nothing paticular, the supermarkets have killed it!

This government really has no idea what its doing. Dropping the tax a little bit now but actually gonna make us even more worse off next year and the year after.
Government said they were helping, independant body said it was rubbish and they were gonna make us worse off!

Funny that you mention that, I just finished an essay on a similar topic for uni today - seems a shame that they have gone but to be honest I can't see there being much of a void left in the market. Most/everything they sold is available else where.
Who's next then???
I've just gone back to work (meat/dry good distribution) after a 2 week holiday expecting it to be busy and it was proper dead compared to what it should be. We should be busy now getting ready for xmas parties but the work load is dropping by the day as bar/clubs etc aren't buying, lucky we have the complete council contacts to keep us going.

so no one is going to close them down if they can earn some sort of money from it
I remember paying 83p for a Wispa Bar, £6.55 for a deck of 20 and £1.85 for a small Vimto.
But i must say that walking down the high street and not seeing woolworths will be strange. Its been there since i was a child.
