Default Any VW Mechanics?

I have a mk4 golf tdi 150, just recently it has been making i can only describe it as a groggy noise on idle, if i rev even just slightly it sounds normal, also when i steer i get a squeaking noise as if the belt is loose (it's not i checked) but again a little rev and is fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Squeeking could be the alternator pulley giving up.

Remove the ribbed belt.
Stick something into the alternator to lock the internal parts. (be careful not to damage anything) You CAN use a screwdriver
The pulley should freewheel one way and lock the other. If it locks both way its mullered.
