Default ignition timing

hi peeps..can someone tell me the correct procedure for setting the ignition timing on my s1..been told by sum to take of ecu pipe at inlet and sum say dont...dont know what to believe! all ive been told by all is that its -12 degrees btdc...

As Ford intended it should be set to 12 degrees BTDC, you need to set it with the vacuum pipe to the ecu removed and plug it up. The ecu can adjust the advance timing thats why you need to remove the pipe!

For stock setup thats right 12btdc with pipe off, if running more boost and fulling then it will need to be retarded to anything from 10btdc to 8btdc.
But really you should have it set up to know its 100% right!

yeah its been chipped...its getting set up soon but just want to get it as good as poss with the timing gun ive got...drove it the other night and its just shit!!!! think my old work van is quicker! lol

Set it to 10-12BTDC and dont nail it, you will be just fine!

i tried to set mine last night, had turn the distributor well round to get it close to 10btdc and the thing started chucking out rich black smoke??

put it back to where is ran better and it was well before the marks, put the pipe back on and i struggled to see the mark and when revved i couldnt see it!!??

Not the best advise to be touching the dizzy without having the whole engine setup at the same time.

You should read a setup guide that i have written to help you out and to save money!
