Default anyone with a mapped 530 Diesel with comments?

anyone who has had their 530d mapped etc care to comment on who they used and how good a job was done?
just got an E39 530D Sport and quite a few companies offer re-maps, so after personal experiences if poss. mine has done 89k miles and running beautifully so assuming turbo isnt smoking already (which it isnt) would it be safe enough to re-map?
cheers

I had my 02 reg 530d Sport mapped by MSD in Blackpool (Evolution Chips - 01253 508400) - Absolutely perfect. Superb service and perfect advice before you buy. - Mine was on 112k miles when I had it remapped - the car drove perfectly aswell, just like the day it would of done when leaving the showroom

Standard, the engine (on post 2001 cars) is 192bhp and about 300 lb/ft - The remap takes it upto around 230-240bhp and 360-380 lb/ft (don't quote me on the torque figure, I've slept since then) - A stunning result and the car cetrainly performed faultlessly with very little increase in smoke.

The only other thing I had done with mine was a K&N filter that replaced the OEM filter in the standard housing - mainly due to it being cheaper for the K&N than the standard BMW item, but this too resulted in better pulling and much improved crawling on tickover.

The car also managed a sub 9:30 on the Nurburgring aswell - not bad for a diesel bus that weighs in at nearly 2 tons

Get it done - you won't be dissapointed!!!

i've heard that one tuning method for them allows you to revert back to the std map by bypassing the "mod box" etc, which appeals as i want to tow with the car and it seems daft to have it runing higher boost all the time under a towing load.
the cars certainly handle well tho, and go well, been very impressed so far, cheers for the advice btw

Sorry to bump an old thread but has anyone had their E60 530d mapped using the evolution chips?. I'm down in Southampton so can't really use MSD and abit wary of using any old garage to do the job!
Thanks for any feed back!

get on the bmwowners forum and ask on there as there are several tuners down here that specialise in them.

When people say cars are better on fuel when re-mapped, can anyone explain how/why it would be better? out of interest.

because of the extra torque produced the engine becomes more efficient, and you can use less throttle pretty much everywhere, and you can stick in higher gears for longer as you have the torque to pull you out of it,

We see some pretty good gains in MPG

More torque yes, but that in itself doesn't make a difference to economy if you are injecting more diesel! The main economy gain is from altering the injection timing, which leads to higher cylinder pressures for the same amount of diesel injected.

E maps is the other end of the country for me.
I take it the 530d's must go pretty well after a remap? To be fair I'm impressed with it as it is now, but the extra mpg would be nice!
