i know its only a jacket but probably best going in a trying it on.
some are pretty heavy jackets and bit harder to move about in were as some are super light and just like a tracksuit top to wear but are just as warm.tbh all the jackets there will be pretty good.
the rab ones are decent too.

I bought a Berghaus goose down gillet last year and it's falling apart!

Very disappointed as I have a load of the fleeces and they last forever.

I'll be buying North Face this year!

Most down (puffa type) jackets are only shower proof, not fully water proof. You will need something with a goretex type shell if you need it to be good in wet weather. I have a North Face Nuptse 700 which is very warm, but no good when its peeing down. Rab are very good, and my next down jacket will be one of theirs.

schot parker , its a bit heavy but fuck me is it warm i have had it for 2 years and still washes up like new . although i gotta say my burton snowboarding jacket is almost as good , much lighter and totally water proof when put in a tech wash. i was in minus 28 total white out this years boarding holiday and we sat half way down a black mogul with a hip flask sweating my nuts off

I have one of these Schoeffel jackets.

Great right down to -25. and waterproof too.

Can be a bit expensive though.

Im a bit of an gear freak when it comes to the outdoors and i would'nt pick north face ot berhaus tbh, Infact the only north face stuff i have is there terra 60 rucksack and there Venture waterproof trousers

These are so many better options then those two, mountain equipment are good but they charge a fucking fortune

Most of my gear is made by a company called "Rab", i use there latok alpine jacket and its the best iv used so far, i also use there photon hoddie witch it think is the best jacket iv used to date for insulation, and also if u use it in your sleeping bag it brings the rating down another 6 degrees

http://www.rab.uk.com/products_waterproof_lajac.html

http://www.rab.uk.com/products_synthetic_phohood.html

Dont get a down jacket unless its waterproof as well

This is well thought as being one of the best jackets for cold conditions in the world (within reason) and is used on everest ect ect

best jacket ever, thoroughly recommend them above anything, as mentioned already, you can just wear fleece, or shell, or both together, wind and waterproof quality stuff!!

As above really, these are great and all, the second one is easily the best for you BUT ideally to keep warm and dry you need a layering system....something waterproof and windproof and breathable to keep the inner layer dry. The inner layer just traps your bodyheat and keeps it there. So ideally something like a fleece inside a gortex outer, pref all in one garment that can be split into the two parts with a zip. Obv if you were out in the woods/mountains etc you'd take this a good bit further but just as a casual winter coat then i'd go for a goretex ( or equivalent ) with a zip-in fleece

Fit is importnat, if it's too loose it wont work. Pay attention to how collars and cuffs fit too
