very true mate, just seems like ken livingstone as fucked everything up in london in everyway poss then leaves a huge mess. what was the need for him making dangerously long bendy buses? which no doubt cost untold millions of our money, why dont banks etc have thier own back up money? if the average joe bloggs goes bust he goest bust so why cant banks handle thier fiances better? its just really annoyed me lately as everywhere you look we get raped from something else

Dont let them bail the banks out then and lets get into a massive recesion that will hit us lots harder than a few quid of our tax money going into the bailout plan!

Im sure ya not that thick as to think its all the governments fault! Especially as its global!

It's a piss take as none of the northern companies have benefited from any work on the games sites but yet it's our taxes contributing to it with no financial gains at all.

Lets fucking hope they make the money back or it'll be another millennium dome fuckup.

Really? Cos I'm there usually once if not twice a week to change glass on the company vehicles down there, and I'd say 90%, if not 95% of the people I am doing the work for are from the North. I've got Scots, Geordies, LOADS of Yorkshiremen, in fact, very few seem to be from below the Watford Gap!

Big Gogs Broon never tired of telling us what a great job he was doing when the economy went well - no mention of the credit for that being "global".

He also said, repeatedly, that there would be no return to boom and bust.

The boom (if that is the right word for wealth that only exists on paper and is entirely backed by debt) was funded by stupidly high house-price inflation that would have been completely controlled if the good old-fashioned lending controls had been kept in place or reinstated (TBH, I think it may have been the Tories who abandoned them but can't recall for sure).

What was wrong with only being able to borrow three times earnings or needing to put down a deposit?
Who thought house prices could only ever go up, despite the recent history of this country (1985, early 1990s etc).
Why should banks suddenly become selling machines?
Who thought building societies would be better off as banks?
Who decided greencrocers and company liquidators were the best people to run our banks?
If banks had to pay those salaries and bonuses to attract the very best management, thank fuck we didn't have any second-rate people in charge!
If the package is worth £1m a year, who seriously believes we would struggle to fnd competent people willing to do the top jobs?

Now that it's all turned to shit it's someone else who caused the problem. Sorry mate, it doesn't wash. The only people to blame for this are politicians and bankers.

Up here we're getting lots of politicians telling us that Scotland couldn't have weathered this as an independent country, citing Ireland and Iceland as examples from the "arc of presperity" (small independent countries around us), but ignoring the fact that Ireland took early action to solve the problem and that even after all this turmoil Iceland will still be wealthier than the UK. They don't even mention Norway, who have been putting a tiny fraction of their oil income into a fund that is now worth something like £200bn and provides more cash each year than the oil industry!

And finally, they seem to keep forgetting that Scottish taxpayers are contributing to the bailing out of these banks and helping pay for the London Olympics too. Hands up anyone who seriously thinks the Olympics will do anything for any normal person outside London? Strangely, we don't seem to be getting any cash for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

in all honesty alot of it IS thier fault, thier greed, they waste money, i.e ive had speed bumps fitted on my road, removed, then different bumps fitted so you can go faster and each bump costs 5k why? why did we need bendy buses when the old buses served perfect for 50 odd years theres just loads in general they WASTE money on and for what?
I appreciate its a global thing with inflation etc but theres other ways the government could have saved money

Do the goverment help the local builder who has been stitched up and has no choice but to go bankrupt and lose his house, job and company! No, so why should the banks get the benifit.

Stuff like this makes me want to put my money under my pillow and have nothing to do with them

Its all greed, they keep giving loans out to numptys that dont pay them back, and wonder why they are in the shit!

Sorry, but if you go bankrupt, thats it, No more. I know there are ppl out there that get fucked over and its not there fault, so they should do something for them, but ppl that are working in a shop on part time hours taking home no more than £150 a week, who get loans, credit cards HPI etc etc and stash the cash and run, should be locked up! Its stealing!

I reckon the figure will needed to be doubled for that. Since when has any project in the UK been managed properly, within budget AND on time of this scale?

Because one builder going bankrupt affects the builder and his family, but a bank going under affects rather more people than just the staff at the bank!

Needs must I suppose.
It may not be fair, yes bankers are all evil capitalist henchmen, yes we're paying for peoples (incl, in some cases, our own) greed etc..etc..
But something had to be done.

Ah.. I was thinking about the bailout of the economy.

Yes, the olympics can go and get fucked. I wouldnt spend a penny on it. Fucking total waste of time. Why should we pay to watch a load of foreign folk running about etc..

I'd rather they pump 95 million into something I'm actually interested in or something sensible like a fuck load of hospitals.

that was my point though, they spent all this time over selling stuff for more than they are worth, banks giving 5 times morgages on 30 year terms and 3 year fixed rates !!!

now its strange than NOW the fixed rates are ending they want help.... this i dont get,,,, but then i wouldnt as it dont concern me tbh

estate agents are FAR from inocent in this,,,, they are not suffering now,,,,, they just aint printing money selling shite to people who cant afford them

ken brought them into place for him to be remembered by them,,, no other reason

the cult status of the old open backed busses was what he wished to bring into london,,,,,, ignoring the deaths/accidents... are you aware they also cause traffic problems due to the taking twice as much space and the drivers blocking side roads,,,,,,, ironic considering he was the man who ALSO brought in the congestion charge !!!

Pisses me off that the goverment is so keen to spend millions on a one off event, yet they wont support the grand prix which brings so much to this country every year!

Correct.

Oh wait, were you being saracastic?

They certainly wont do shit for me. As for the country as a whole, I'll reserve jusgement til someone shows me a genuine costs vs benefits statement.

olympics make a profit? if we've just had to bail it out 95millions and further bail outs expected then where are they meant to make money if they cant manage to do a close estimation of the costs involved? for every other country its probally an earner as it brings all the foriegners over to spend thier money, but in england they're already here and they dont spend it, they send it home, bank at home etc the country is just run by over paid twats (all in my opinion of corse)

The real tragedy of the olympics is cities all over the world competing for years, wining and dining the IOC as they jet around the world to select the host cities.

Then the lucky "winners" spend a fortune that they often don't have, building facilities they don't need, to use for three weeks of competition, then close them down and leave them to turn into rotten eye-sores. For proof of this, just look at any recent host city, staring with Athens.

Surely the time has come for Athens to reclaim the Olympics and become the permanent home, stopping all the host-city nonsense, building facilities all over the world that won't be used again, and giving the Greeks a reason to keep the existing infrastructure in use from one competition to the next.

thats a sensible plan. its just a money go round now for those on the gravy train.
it wont be any benefit to those needing funding up here.

Of course you would - the people owed money by Virgin, the taxman and the shareholders would all go flat-out to recover every penny they possibly could.

what exactly will it bring ? obviously after you take the initial cost of preperation (building's , wages to builders etc etc ) oh and dont forget the extra policing and security , also might want to take into account the turmoil it will create in surrounding areas for local buisness etc etc . i can see hotels making a few quid out of it but cant see anyone outside of the m25 benefiting . unless i'm missing something m8 ??
