If the stereo doesnt have a conventional ISO plug on the back of it you need to buy yourself an adaptor. Somewhere like www.blueunplugged.com (or co.uk!!) are one of the cheapest places.

1st thing i checked was their website and they only seem to show defender up to 2002, and i think 2007 onwards is when the dash changed and is very different

no chopping of anykind, warrenty issues and my dad would have kittens
No idea and as its a chritmas present to my mum, she might suspect something if i drove 100mile to see her, and pulled her headunit out

Change isn't the word- shit thats different, looking though its standard din pins to get it out- but the rear of it might be very different- its actually VERY similar to a new Disco dash but you have to take most of the dash apart as the stereo's are screwed in.
You are unlikely to be able to chop into it as it will be can bus and no switched live- the Parrot kit needs a switched live to work.
Might have an external amp too- which again is a no no for a parrot.
Parrot do normally do the add ons to connect to none ISO stereos- ring them- the website might not be up to date.
If you are that bothered about your warrenty etc I would get this done by a proffesional.
Also looking at the dash it looks like someone without the neccesary skills OR balls would have a job of running the cable for the control box.
Personally if I was you I would walk away from doing that......

PS- I used to do this for a living....
thats a bugger, as allready have a kit, just after a conection lead part no.
from memory tho if you stick your head in the footwell you can see the stereo wiring, so dont think it should be too much greif?

There is an art to vehicle installations- you can make it look like you did it yourself, or you can make it look like it came from the factory like it.
All depends how much know how and skill you have.
Either way- and no offence- you're questions make me think you haven't taken enough cars apart- especially modern cars to make this an easy task.
J
none taken, only really played with older cars, sierras etc
well ive got a few months before christmas to sort something.
but surely theres a live on the stereo somewhere? or 12v socket rear conections

Parrot CK3100 requires:
LIVE
SWITCHED LIVE
NEGATIVE/EARTH
Audio inputs and Audio outputs, ideally it also requires a mute signal- but the relay in the parrot kit is quite clever and it is not neccesary.
Modern car stereos work using LIVE and NEGATIVE the on signal comes from CANBUS which is activated during vehicle ignition (or in some cases fibre optics/infra red) this is digital signals in the form of a pulse and tell the stereo what to do via these pulses.
IE ON or OFF
http://www.powerbase-auto.co.uk/canbus.htm
They carry little or no voltage and certainly not enough to power something off of and the fact they pulse means even if they did they would not work
In fact messing with these would possibly damage other systems on the vehicle.
The ONLY way this guy may be able to use the back of the stereo is IF the CANBUS switchs on a redundant switched live for the likes of a power aerial or for a cd changer- however as the chap in question has already stated he wants plug and play due to potential warrenty issues this is not an option.

See my reply.
Fuse board or alternativly fag lighter (if it has one, as most are spec'd optional extra's now adays)- however knowing newer vehicles such as this it will probably be permenant as its a utility vehicle and you dont neccesarily want the engine running or the ignition on while something is plugged in (this is how manufacturers think)
Best bet - like I said is speak to Parrot and ask them if they do an interface to plug and play.

I have been out of it 12mths so haven't personally taken apart a new defender.
BUT- I must have fitted 1000 Parrots
If it externally amped, then armour auto/autoleads will do a lead for it, part numbers usually start with SOT.

No plugs or extras needed in the end btw,
a bit late but a few install pictures,
the cable from the display goes into the vent pipe, then out via a small hole i made.
the control box fits nicely behind the cover under the dash on the passenger side.
